Does not have headlight dimmer switch. Does this mean single filament bulb and for light, what you see is what you get?

pretty much,the headlights work from the stator (not sure on what model you have gotta see it to tell you) some work off the stator some work off the battery.if its dim at idle and goes up when you rev it works from the stator

Do you have a switch that is turning the light on and off? That is likely your dimmer switch, as M/C's have had mandatory headlight on all the time since the 1980's. Maybe you have a filiment out, or a faulty switch. But let us know. I'm curious to learn what is going on there.

I have the owner and shop manual. Both show a dimmer switch up from the signal switch, just like every other scooter I have(18). Manuals are not "year specific" tho. That spot on this Kymco is blank, no cap-no nothing. Has an illuminated beam indicater in the instrument cluster, but apparently just indicates that the headlight, which operates off the stator, is on. Does not have "on-off" switch. That location has a cap installed.

Ok, that's a new one for me. Thanks for the clarification. Your original post seemed to indicate just that, but having never seen such a thing, I immediately discounted that notion.

To put it another way, he seems to have a bike equipped with a single wattage headlight (i.e. no separate high / low beam). I have never heard of such a thing EVER. And I have had bikes as old as 1963.

oh,maybe a new lightbulb is just what he needs.thing is we just need to know what type of light bulb it is for us to help him out.

on the pocketbikes they have the similar kind of setup but its on two different wires.similar to the zuma one light for low and the other for high beams.

check the socket for one or 2 contacts for the bulb
that(2 contacts) will tell you if there should be a switch

older scooters like your chain drives can have a 3 position light switch
(off/running lights/headlight)and a high/low beam switch
by 2007 almost all scooters by law. went to headlights wired directly
to the battery or stator so the lights are always on.

OK. I am apparently not expressing what I mean. They say a picture is worth 50 words so I hope the picture gets through. You can see where the dimmer switch isn't and that the low beam indicator is on, as the scoot is running. Sure would like to know what kinda setup this is, and why. Thanks

All my scooter lights operate off the stator (come on after starting) except the 2007 Fly IL Bello (150cc) which operates off the battery (comes on when I turn the key on.)

Thanks for the pic. I knew what you were saying, but I'm still in awe from seeing it.

Your only option may be in fact to rig up something custom to get a second filliment to work. I switched mine over to the standard three prong automotive style connector at the headlight. You could wire the ground and low beam to your existing headlight wiring, and run a second positive from a custom switch to the third lead on the pigtail, thus illuminating your high beam. This would actually give you MORE light than stock, since I believe the low filliment normally shuts off when the high goes on. You could wire it to do that, though if you used an "or" type switch (3 pole 2 position) that shuts off one circuit and opens the other. Either way, tap your second positive from where the first low beam current comes from, so you don't have an always on high beam that could kill your battery. You may need to run a heavier guage wire from the stator, but probably not.

Addenum to above: You could always source out the correct control housing that has the switch - that would certainly look better than a stray toggle somewhere. It would cost more, and be more work, but on a nice late model bike like that, it's probably worth it.

And as Harry suggested, you might want to look at your current pigtail - it might have a second wire for the highbeam already. Then you can use a normal scooter bulb. I switched mine to automotive because Autozone had the bulb and pigtail, and they were cheap. I also now have the benefit of a 55w / 60w system as opposed to a 35w / 35w.

This model comes without a high/low headlight switch, even though the wiring diagram shows one! I've complained to Kymco USA and contacted DOT. I'll post a followup when I know more.
