Hey Gang,
Picked up an 04 Zuma today. Its my first scooter but I've had many street bikes in the past. 650 miles on it, I paid $1,200.00.

So they delivered it today, I took it for a ride and really loved it.

Since I love to tinker I thought I'd check the air filter.. What a ***** to get that clip on and off untill I figured that taking the floor board off..

A couple questions...
Are there any mods to be made to the airbox??
Second, I notice that it looks like the engine (cylinder) is encased in a metal box or something. Wouldnt that keep a ton of heat in engine??

I live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL so heat is a concern. Othwise I think I love the scooter..

Any further advise would be great.

Thanks,
Mitch.

Hi Mitch :)

I've had many street bikes in the past too, but scooters are magical.

I ride a Vino... same engine, but I'm not sure about the airbox. Mine is an oil/foam... simple and cheap to renew. Provo does sell aftermarket air filters if you're looking for less restrictive applications.

As to the cylinder being encased in a metal box... do you mean the air shroud? It's an aircooled engine and the metal work is designed to duct the cooling airflow around the cylinder. If not, I need more information. It's a scooter... you're not supposed to see the innards, after all! ;)

Welcome aboard!

Erika

Thanks Erika,
I suppose thats what it is..

I have another question that just came up. Now that its dark out I wanted to see how good the lights work. I have to pull the rear brake pretty hard, more than half way before the brake light comes on... any way to adjust this so it comes on sooner??

Thanks
Mitch

the front brake usually trips the lights alot faster. Seeing how you always use both brakes to stop, why bother trying to adjust the rear ones? :naught:

The better they can see you, the easier it is for them to hit you.

the rear brake level has a plastic pin that sets the light off... it's really easy... take needle nose pliers and pull the brake lever... pinch the tip of the plastic button (it's pretty small) and try the brake... take off as much as you want till it come on when you want it to...

I have mine so it comes on with about 1/8th inch of a pull... so it's hair trigger....

Aanother tip for night time visibility is to use some reflective tape. You can decorate your scooter or helmet. I put some red reflective tape around my scooter trunk. Of course it's of no use when I ride w/o the trunk ;wink)

Check out Spanky's helmet from his garage

Jered,
Thanks, I clipped about 1/16 of an inch off that white cable, perfect now...
Thanks,
Mitch
