i picked up a 2000 vino that did not run and sat for years. i drained the fuel and swapped the carb as it would start when i sprayed fuel into the carb directly but would not stay running. i had a carb from my 2004 zuma that had about 3 miles on it total. now it starts 1 kick and idles great. the issue is as soon as i try to ride it boggs and gets upto 20mph. i pulled the plug and it was shot. new plug and also drained the 2c oil from the tank to be sure as the last owner said it was the oil that it came with new in 2000. it only has 150 miles on the clock. still wont break 20mph and slow as ass. are the carbs jetted the same? the carb looks like an exact match. i did not open them up to compare. any info would be great. all eles is stock.

Possible air leak somewhere? My bike did exactly this when I tried running it without the airbox.

look close at the intake rubber from the air box and the
other side of the carb too.
you could have some cracks in them.
i've had to repair some when scooters have sat for a few years
and you have 10 years on a 2000.
i have a fix that works good and you don't have to buy a new intake.
let us know..

the stock carbs on the vino's have a 68 main jet, and i believe the zuma's have a 85 main jet. So you might want to swap the main jets from the carbs.
Good luck.

ok that may be the issue. ive been running it w/o the air box. i didnt think it would matter much. i will also swap the main jet. i will post back in a few day's with the results.
thx

The air box on stock scooters is a sort of temperamental thing. Some scooters just won't run without them. Others will just run poorly.

THC70 - Sounds like you will be on the road in no time! Let us know.
Harry - I'm very interested in your fix for the intake. Mine has several severe looking cracks on the OUTSIDE, but the inside looks brand new.

get yourself some "liquid tape/insulation" for wires.
you may need to paint on a couple of layers.
works great. just make sure the part is clean of oil or gas

Wow, that's a great tip! I have been meaning to get some of that anyway, for it's intended purpose.
It wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to buy a new intake for my scoot, but I will occasionally find myself working on older stuff where the parts are either unavailable, or NOS (and probably already deteriorated from storage). Plus sometimes you just want to get back on the road, and not have the vehicle down while waiting for parts. I'm sure this tip will serve me well.

yes it is handy ,the air leaks are hard to find and you can't be sure
they are whats causing your lean conditions when you are diagnosing
a poorly running scooter.
and its invaluable for obsolete parts too.
i've never tried tool dip but it might work.
