View Full Version : What aftermarket parts fit my driveline?

I'm trying to learn a bit more about the drivetrain in my ML492 Milano two stroke.
It's a Minerelli Horizontal. It has Yamaha cast over the clutch area of the belt cover. The motor number is 1PE40QMB*05k80391.
The carb is a TK 4SE 00 6F06 with a 70 main, 48 pilot. I forget the needle #
It has roughly 11 to 1 primary ratio
the output shaft to clutch center measures 11" (by tapemeasure).
It has a Yamaha brand belt (presumed to be original) P/N 3VP-17641-00 The stated measurement for this is 797 x 16.60 (the Yamaha cross reference is to something called a CR 50 Z).
The wristpin is the smaller 10mm
The splined area of the output shaft (where the variator mounts) measures .5059" (12.84986mm). I understand there are two sizes. Per the answer in this thread http://provoscooter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10061&highlight=vento+variator+spline the two sizes would be 14mm or 16mm. I must have measured in the wrong place to come up with just under 13mm. That same answer indicates that with the smaller wristpin comes the smaller variator, but my bike is neither of those. Provo doesn't list the Milano 2t, they list Venice / LX, for which they sell the larger variator.
So if anyone knows, is this motor what they call a "long case" "short case" or something different entirely? If I decide to buy a performance variator, which provo part will work? Or to put it differently, am I large spline or small? Is there a Kevlar belt that will suit my application?
Thanks in advance to anyone who might help. Down the road I plan to (among other things) use an aftermarket variator and belt. I spent quite some time trying to find a definitive answer by searching, and all I came up with is the thread I posted at the beginning. Thanks.

Sounds to me like your engine is the same as the Yamaha Vino. The crank spline is the smaller one so the variators for the vino/zuma are the ones you need. I don't know the exact measurement of it. I've heard both 13 and 14mm. it probably depends on where people measure from and how accurate. they are.
the 10mm pin means the cylinders that fit are the same as those of the zuma/vino. As for the belt length and the short/long case question, i would say you know the length of your belt thats on their so just find a replacement thats the same size about - which turns out is the same as the Yamaha Vino.
Basically all the parts for the Yamaha Vino will work with your scooter. (except the gears, I've never really sorted that out before)
Hope this helps. I'm sure others will have more insight...perhaps about engine numbers and the corresponding types/details... (that would be good info to have - Hint, Hint :) )

Thanks a mint, g~scoot. I was measuring the splined shaft on the flats using a 0 to 1" micrometer. I think if I used a vernier, and rolled it until I found the biggest reading, I would have gotten closer to the 14mm mark. Next time I'm in there, I'll be sure to remeasure, and post my results (for the next newb).
I'm still not exactly sure what I will use this scooter for, but I am trying to find out what I have, and where I want to be. The good thing is that the acceleration and top speed on flat ground are satisfactory. The only thing I have done was to grind out the exhaust port restriction on the cylinder, and remove the washer from the stock variator. It runs lean at WOT, but I did raise the needle one notch, so part throttle is fine. There is a bit of a dead spot off the line with the variator washer out, but I can still keep up with traffic. I'm thinking a Multivar or Athena speed variator might give me the best of both worlds. If I can take reasonable hills at this speed after installing a 70cc sport cylinder, I'll be pretty happy. I think 43 to 46 is as fast as I need to go. No matter how fast I get it, there will always be some fool in a car that wants to ride my backend. In summation, thanks for clarifying my questionable measurements. If others come up with 13 for the small spline, they must have measured as I did.

No problem. Its always good to get clear and correct info. Good luck with the build.

Thanks OverRev we can always count on you to set us straight.

The master has spoken. Overrev, does that mean the popular Vino / Zuma variators will fit, or is the 13mm something different altogether? Right now I'm assuming that I should order the Vino variator, and not the one listed as TNG / Vento in the provoscooter store. I'm sorry for all the redundant overclarrification requests, but there is little more frustrating than planning an evening of new goodie installation and testing to find out Mr UPS man brought the wrong part. Sometimes I think having the oddball scooter is a royal PITA, and other times I think the challenge makes it more interesting.

The Vino/Zuma use the 13mm

the Yamaha Jog 50, Aerox 50, Vino 50, Zuma 50 all use 13mm spline so the varios for 1 should fit all the others.

Perfect. I promise when this is all over, I'll summarize everything I have learned about the one year only two stroke Milano, and post it on this forum. BTW, does anyone know if Vino 125 rear side panels fit on this bike? I am beginning to hate the vinyl padded inserts on mine. In the photos, the new Vino and Milano panels look very similar. And you have already proven that Venice / Vino classic panels interchange somewhat. I had to repair a crack in one of mine, and smoothed out the repair with Bondo. It came out fine (at least under the BBQ black respray), but I'm thinking filling in where those vinyl inserts go will be difficult considering the compound curve.

G~Scoot, the jury is in. Vino gears do work on the ML492. And quite nicely, I might add. Cam phone battery went dead during install, so I don't have reassembly pics.

that is really good to hear. Glad everything worked out.

Yeah, so far so good. It really runs great, but I'm afraid when I put a pipe on it, the combined lag from takeoff of that and the upgear might be awful. Right now I'm running yellow colored clutch springs of unknown manufacture. I'm guessing them to be 1500rpm, but I don't have a tach, or any basis for comparison other than the Polini greens I also have. The greens are definately softer (lower launch rpm) than the yellows. I can live with it now, but might need to go one stiffness up when piped.
