When i took the Exhaust off my Vino there was a washer sitting inside the the base at the end. Is this the only thing i need to remove or is there more i should bust/grind out? I see two weld spots and what looks like metal i could remove but i dont want to F it up if thats not the case.

Also i have seen people talking about re-jetting. Can someone explain what this is and does, for us who are new to the scooter world.

Like i said i removed the washer that was sitting free in the base of the exhaust and i plan on doing the de-reg on the variator tomorrow. I just was curious about this jetting problem and what it has to deal with.

yep... that's it in the exhaust... nothing more...

the variator is probably the biggest limiter on the vino... it keeps the pulley about at half or so... once you remove that and with the exhaust mod... you'll feel like your on a new scooter....

Rejetting... it changing to a larger main carb jet... it is possible with the derestriction to need to go to the next larger jet size... Email erich here (sales@provoscooter.com) and ask if he has the stock jets a size bigger for the vino. I'm pretty sure he has access to them but not 100%...

the way to check if you need it is to run it for 10 miles or so... pull the plug out... if it's chocolate colored... your good to go... if it's grey or white... you need to rejet the carb...

If it's chocolate... then I'd also check it after another 15+ miles to make sure you got a good read on it...

The big copper washer is a gasket. Leave it in when you reassemble. The little washer (it was cone shaped on my vino) that's tack welded inside the exhaust pipe is the exhaust restrictor. Mine came out easily by sticking a big screw driver down in it and prying back and forth a couple of times. The tack welds that hold it in broke with very little effort, no grinding necessary.

I highly reccomend the variator restrictor removal too...you'll get much better top speed. Be sure to use the right size screwdrivers to remove the cover, and be careful to avoid breaking the cooling fins! (Another post reccomends using a strap wrench. I wish I'd read that earlier!)

Good luck!

I got the variator restriction off...no sweat! But now i think i may have done the exhaust wrong...The only thing that i removed was (looking down the end attached to the manifold) the washer that just fell out...It looks copper in color, is this not what is supposed to be taken out? What should it look like when i remove it...There are still two welds inside, i just didnt want to start ripping things out that are supposed to stay in there.

Should i put the copper ring back in and try to remove the welds and whatever comes with it? I wish someone had better pictures than whats in the how to section.

Also how do i get to the spark plugs to check if i need to re-jet?

okay... the copper ring he is talking about... is a large diameter ring that is bigger than the exhaust hole... it actually sits outside the exhaust between the exhaust and the cylinder port....

the piece you need to take off, is actually inside the the exhaust tube... it will be small diameter and be able to fit into the pipe itself...

if you took the large copper ring off... YES, all that did was create an exhaust leak... WHICH IS BAD!

ok so i put the copper ring back in there....which cut back on noise! and this popping sound, which i assume is part of that air leak maybe...I cant seem to bust the three weld spots out or even pry it out sine i cant seem to get good leverage with the pipe, im afraid im going to bend the end of the pipe or even my screwdriver. I guess i will have to find a grinder and just grind it out.

I did take care of the variator de-reg with now problems. Seems like there is a bit of a increase in speed but nothing great, at least by what the speedo is telling me. Could this have anything to do with my vino only having 144 miles on it. The manual says it needs to be broken in until 600miles, but does it make that much of a difference. I want to be able to go faster so i can drive around in traffic and not feel like im slowing people down or have people on my arse all the time. Any suggestion, tires are the next item on my list after the variator and the exhaust.

the ring you see there... is the gasket... DO NOT REMOVE THIS... it needs to be installed between the pipe and the cylinder... or you'll melt your cylinder!

this is how some are restricted... I don't think yours is like this... I think yours is a simple washer/cone that is tack welded in.... and you need to grind the tacks off....

and of course I can't find the cone pic I had... I had one that was from my LeoVince ZX pipe... but the picture has disappeared....

Beautiful! Thats what i needed, thanks so much. Mine is tack welding three times and has that cone thing you speak of. I just need to find a grinder so i can remove the welds and take the cone out. The copper gasket is back on now, thanks for the important info! Just out of curiousity, how does it sound once you de-restrict it...Without the gasket it was quite loud, like a go kart or something. Its back to normal now with the gasket back in. What should i expect one i remove the "cone".

yeah... it was so loud cause of a horrible exhaust leak!

It will be like normal... but a hair louder... not much more at all...

You will just have more power...

it should be like my stock zuma... which was very quiet....

I just dereg my exhaust and took it around the block. It seems to idle a lot harder when coasting and it sounds a lot more like a chain saw. Is that normal? I don't mind the sound I'm just worried about the rough idle.

no, put your exhaust on the incorrect way, after you install the pipe, put your hand near the cylinder exhaust port, rev it, if you feel air coming out, you have to angle the pipe better and make sure that its on tight, otherwise yes, it will sound like a chainsaw, and you will have garbage accel

It has great acceleration. One thing I noticed though was the copper gasket/seal is flat on one side and rounded on the inside edge of the other. Which side is supposed to point up? Do you think that has anything to do with it?
