My battery died on my Zuma. Will the scooter recharge the battery while it is running or will I need a new battery?

Thanks

that all depends on how dead, and for how long it was dead? It might survive ;)

i think the best thing is to trickle charge on a charger... but i know its possible to charge a battery by riding it.. though i have heard its a huge load on the alternator and can hurt it... wait. do we even have an alternator??

yep... put it on a charger... my scooter battery works fine... but if it's dead, from cranking etc... and I kick start... it will not charge the battery... EVER...

I always have to charge it on the wall....

That's why I prefer to use the kickstart. That little motor can't have a very strong charging system, so constant use of the electric starter has to drag the battery down, especially if you do a lot of short rides. Doesn't hurt to stick it on a trickle charger over-night every now and then too, even if the battery isn't flat.

yep... the battery on my scooter is used specifically to power the alarm... the rest... uses the charging system while running...

My Battery died also today, it was fine this morning the I left the keys in the ignition in the "ON" possition for 1 hour came back and the battery was dead (I have the dual headlight mod), do you think that the keys in ON are the problem ??? I just purchase the "Battety Charger", do I have to charge it every day to keep it the battery operational ??? please help.
Thanks.

charge the battery... it will work better then trying to let the scooter try to charge the battery...

Yes, your scooter died from you leaving it in the "ON" position... the headlights are not even on unless the scooter is running... and takes no draw from the battery...

Buy a Battery tender jr. from Erich @ Provoscooter.

This little guy comes with a pigtail that can be permanantly attached to the battery, and easily plugged in at the end of a ride.

The circuitry is protective so the battery can be left on, in their words, "forever".

My Zuma battery was running down, and my thoughts immediately jumped to...replacement battery. I bought this first, thinking, I'll need one sooner or later. Now the battery is fine, no problem.

I ran the Jeep battery down the other day, running my Aero air pump...the little B.T. jr....brought it back, in a half hour....and that's an 1100 amp hour battery!

I like many of you have let my battery sit for months without using it. Should I fill it back up with water and then charge with a trickle charger?

The manual states to charge the battery monthly. That tells me that even Yamaha knows that under 'normal' usage the charging system may not top off the battery.

Trickle chargers are a necessary item. NAPA has one for $10.
