This is a buddy of mine....

He bought 2 new 2005 Yamaha Zumas 2 weeks ago. He had some junk scooters and wanted to get "one like Mark has".

He was leaving the Daytona 500 to go back to his RV. Our other friend was passing him so he reached over to grab the rear rack- this would make his buddy slow down so he could not pass him.

He was goofing off and treating his scoot like a toy- giving us all a bad name as well as ending his life..... Be careful and have fun but use your head people! I know this is a good place with good people and don't need 83432309 replies saying "Sorry for your loss" and so on- I know that is how you all feel and thank you in advance for the thoughts and prayers. Just wanted to throw this story out there to remind us that these are not toys and to ride responsibility...

Man dies when moped hit by car

A Maryland man was killed Sunday night when his moped slid out of control on State Road 415 near East Country Circle Drive, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

Dwight W. Gregory, 35, of Mechanicsville, Md., was driving his moped in the southbound lane of State Road 415 at about 7 p.m. with a friend, Christopher Ross, 33, riding another moped, Trooper Jake Fisher said.

When Ross passed him, Gregory swerved and lost control of the moped, Fisher said. The moped slid across the northbound lane of S.R. 415 and was struck by an oncoming vehicle, knocking Gregory back into the southbound lane, he said.

Gregory was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet,
Fisher said.Ross and the driver of the car, whose name was not released, were not injured, Fisher said. No charges were filed against the driver of the car.

Mark- What a tragedy! Now Christopher Ross has to live with the results of his foolishness. His life will never be the same again.

Thanks for the reminder

I agree, Susan. Truly Tragic. But... if I understand what Mark said and what I assume to be a news clip at the end of his post, Dwight Gregory was the one who grabbed Ross's rack, causing his own demise. It's a little unclear, but it sounds like Ross may be innocent here.

In any case... no less tragic. My condolences on your loss, Mark.
