A newbie here!

I am looking to purchase a scooter fairly soon and found one with low mileage available. I have read through a fair number of posts and have not been able to find much info on 04's. Can these be modified to get better performance? I am starting off fresh so a 4 stroke with fairly good performance will be my choice. Did 4 strokes arrive in 06? Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. I get the impression a 125 maybe a viable choice.

Thanks again.

I presume you are talking about a 50cc scooter?
#1 an 04 Vino 50cc is a 2 stroke not a 4 stroke.
#2 in 06 the Vino Classic 50cc went to 4 stroke. Top speed for a stock Vino 50cc 2 stroke is approx 40 mph, but there a lot of mods that can be added to make it run a 50-55 mph. Mods are "very expensive" and will eventually shorten the life of the scooter. Top speed for a stock Vino 50cc Classic is approx 38 mph, few mods are available at this time, and those that are available will only increase it's top speed to around 45 mph. Top speed on a stock Vino 125cc which is also a 4 stroke, is approx 50-55 mph. A 50cc scooter "may or may not" require a title, license plates, or a motorcycle license in your State. A Vino 125cc will. A 50cc Classic will get around 95 mpg, a 125cc around 65 mpg. The Vino 125cc is a larger scooter and costs about $800 more than the Classic. You have to decide your needs and what you want your scooter to do. A 50cc is not a highway scooter it is too slow. Vino 125cc just barely qualifies as a highway scooter. Make your decision now, not after you buy a scooter and wish you had bought somethig different!
