Just wanted to see what you guys have done... You pretty much know what my scooter has been through... now I want to know what you have chopped, changed, or destroyed on yours!

post info and pics below... as well as vote

BTW: you can view who posted what for the poll above by clicking the "blue number" next to the answers...

My wifes 2003 is stock. I got a 2005 for me and started choppin the first day. Removed the grab rail/book rack and discovered there was no where to "grab" to put it on the center stand. So I chopped off the book rack part, took it to the powder coater and I think it looks factory custom. I think I have to much spare time. Keep on choppin and tunin.

I've spent the past couple of days friendly'in up to my dealer's service manager, to try and get a feel for the Warranty vs. Mods area.

The owner is a friendly sort too (who else would hand me the keys to a Majesty...?) and has indicated that it is an area in which there is a little room to Mod and still be covered...

Which brings me back to the BIG QUESTION:

> Do I Mod for more speed?
> Do I leave it stock for trade in on a 2006 Yam, IF they come up with a decent scooter to fill the hole between 50cc and 400cc... (The Vino 125 is cute, but they're not shipping them...and it is a smaller platform for my XXL body)
> If stock, do I get the Y.E.S. warranty extension ? ( Note: My dealer sells the Y.E.S. 10% cheaper than Yamaha does online ! )

I have pretty much decided that I'd rather ride the [less than ideal] bike bought from this dealer than go 80-90 mi., buy a Kymco 250, and deal with the hassle if I need service. I'd take the Majesty if nothing else came up. My dealer goes to a trade show in mid-June, and will see the Yamaha 2006 scooter offerings then.

Part of this decision process is Yamaha's easy credit...I walk in there, they hand me 5K$ and say, "Go spend it... and pay $39/mo. for 2 years...".

I even checked into Honda, figuring the big boys would have competing finance plans, but 2 problems arose...the scooters are much more expensive, and they're ugly.

For now, my big mod will consist of mounting the Pirelli SL-26 tires I've got. Oh, and trying a Kevlar belt... I checked with Erich...he can get me a Multivar in a Stage 1 kit for an extra $10.

Mid June, we'll see what to do...

Hi Larry :)

Sounds like you already pretty much know what you want to do with your scoot. I find that with the Next R and MultiVar my 49cc Vino runs around pretty much acting like a Vino 125, with probably a bit better acceleration to boot. I suspect you'll like what the Stage One does to your Zuma as well.

As this decision matrix goes, that's my plan.

Warranty is not an issue. The only service issue I know of on stock Zumas is the brake light switches. Some guys have had problems. My dealer has sold a whole lot of Zumas, and never had a major warranty claim. Anything that might break is so easy and cheap to fix, it's not a concern. Do whatever you want to the scooter. If it breaks, it's your fault, so fix it.

Everyone with a Zuma, new or old, comes with dual headlights. This must be why it is the most popular "mod". I left that off when I posted on the poll.

The dual headlight mod means to have both headlights turn on at the same time.

lol, thats nothing, the real zumas (pre bug) do that anyways.

I have an 05 zuma with almost 200 miles on it. Already got the Leo Vince zx pipe with new rollers and clutch springs, put silverstar 9003 headlamps in it with custom red mesh headlight covers...I actually reverted back to the stock rollers as the blue ones seemed to make the zoot suck on the bottom end...still hits almost 50 with no mods made to the engine...I have read that it takes about 1000 miles for the engine to fully break in, is this true?....took the stock zuma tires and switched them out for a set of grabby pirellis...brakestands are a riot on a sleeper like the zuma....

You guys need to take more pics of your external mods. Pictures make everyone happier.

As for my mods, well I've had mine less then a week, but as of right now its stock, I think tomorrow at work I'll take off the decals since my friend bought a blue one like mine. After my racing season is over in august I might get the stage 1 kit, and over winter I might paint it some color or another. But who knows.

Well I did my first two "mods" today, and I use that term quite loosely. After work today I took off my decals, which took all of 30 seconds, then most of the warning lables that don't really matter so much. Like the one next to the seat and the ones on the cargo bar thingy and then the two on front. And then ever since I bought my zuma last week the front fender has always been kinda tweaked, so I removed to to try and fix it today and just decieded to leave it off for a lil while. Looks pretty good. ;)

Some of these scoots look like they should be in Max Max!! My mods are all internal except I took that plastic wheelie bar off. Except for the chrome RS pipe, it looks 100% stock. And I like it that way!! I think the Zuma (silver) has clean lines, for a fat scooter. The only thing I really don't like is the BUGEYES!!. I thought about frenching some lights into the front plastic, and doing away with the hubble telescope lights, but thats a winter project!! Nice looking scoot's though.

you pull the front panel off, 2, 10mm bolts and 2 phillps screws...

Then simply swap the bulbs.

now I'm confused... the pic on page 3, shows no "speedo and cover" the pic on page 4... shows them....

which is it? Just wondering...

I like the headlights... BUT! can it run 2, 55w bulbs and allow the battery to charge?

Guessing you premix? Since you have no oil tank...

looks like you shaved the rear end like mine, and removed the plastic cover (that covers the oil tank and such)...

looks good!

It's the same scooter, it's just that I'm working on a new set of handlebars and I have the stock for now.

I still have an oil tank (smaller than the original one) and my gas tank is in my trunk under the seat (I still have space though).

I had to actually cut the frame and remove all the unnecessary pieces. I also had to cut about 4 inches off the side panels.

I might do a thread with all the pictures showing the progression, if people are interested to do it.

good point, the bugeyes are light compared to most scoots around. i would love to get some BCD body panels but i think the shipping would kill me as i would need to order them from Europe. that rear fender setup is absolutley beuatiful. i love how it shows off more of the motor.

Well I finally got off my lazy kester and did the dual light mod. It was extremely easy and I could kick myself for not doing it before. Of course I rarely ride my Zuma at night. Any way I took it out for a trial run right after dark tonight and could not believe the difference. This is one of those mods that you wonder who was asleep at Yamaha when the set up was designed. I did it like Jered's how to and it really is great. I was thinking about higher wattage bulbs but I don't think I need them now. I may get the 35 white bulbs after a while but for now I am happy with the Zumas lights. :raf:

Thanks all.
