What's the topspeed of a Derbi GP1 scooter derestricted (2004)?

And also I heard that the liquid cooling system on the GP1 is built too small and the scooter overheat very fast. Is it true?

Also please post if you recommend this scooter.

One of the guys in our Pgh Scooter Club has a GP1. I'll ask him. He's stage it tho so it probably runs a bit hotter than stock anyway. ;)

OK... Here's the scoop on the GP-1.

John says he weighs 230 lbs and derestricted he could do 45 mph on his GP-1. A lighter person should see 50 + mph.

He has since installed a Malossi MHR aluminum 70cc kit, malossi MultiVar, upgears and Leo Vince ZX and rejeted the stock 17.5 mm carb and drilled the airbox and never has an overheating problem with his stock cooling system. A friend of his has a staged GP-1 in much warmer Georgia and also never has an overheating problem, so it would seem the cooling system on the GP-1 is perfectly sufficient.

BTW, John's GP-1 does 65 mph now with his 230 pounds on it. Sounds like a good scoot that can be made great.

Hope all this helps. :)

On the Yahoo forumns...GP-1 owners are Happy and Proud with their choice of scooter...I've never heard about any cooling problems.....Too bad we don't hear from Toucan anymore....after he staged -3 his 2002 GP-1...he's having too much fun to post!! :p

I was planning to buy a GP1 2004, but some people from Aprilia told me it wasn't good and that i'll be better with Aprilia. Guess they were wrong...

Anyways, Thank you very much for your answers.

ROFLOL ,of course Aprilia reps would say that, and I'm sure if you went to Derbi, they'd tell you that the GP-1 is better than an SR-50.

I have 2 GP1s (well, my brother owns the other but its at my house and possession is 9/10 of the law)

My GP1 is stock (de-restricted)
Brothers GP1 is stage 3 (fast)

My scooter at full speed (45ish MPH) for about a 3 hour trip last summer (July Salt Lake City 90 degrees or so) didn't even make it up 1/10 on the temp gauge. The gauge does not list the exact temperature, but I assume the red area at the top is bad and the white area at the bottom is good.

My brothers scooter is tuned for 4,000 feet but I took it to Vegas (2,000 feet) and was warned it could be running hot. In Vegas running full speed for about an hour (70ish MPH btw) only caused the temp. gauge to inch up about 1/9. Just a little warmer than mine did in July. But it was also colder in Vegas at the time. But even on hot days his scooter doesn't get much hotter than this.

In closing the only way I could think of overheating our GP1s would include matches. (I'll send picts if I ever test that)

We have 2 gp1's in the family as well, one stock and mine which is full polini evo, mhr and what not. Both of them would do 50ish derestricted and neither overheated. Mine did over heat once since I put the evo cylinder on it, but that was just because the drive belt for the coolant pump snaped. Put a new one on and no more problems since.
