I have a friend who bought a new Vino last month and now his seat is stuck. He was riding two people and hit a bump and when he got home he couldn't get his seat to open up. The two of us tried to turn the key and pry open the seat but it just wouldn't open up. He does have some stuff in there that he really needs to get out like his cell phone, money, and he can't get to his gas cap. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it opened??

Admin note: The scooter in the above post is not a Vino, but a Geely. This thread is a copy of a closed thread made in the Vino forum. That thread was closed since it was not about the Vino, but rather a Geely. There was a lot of useful Vino information so the post remained, but all talk related to the Geely issue is to be discussed here.

Is the key turning at all and the seat is not popping?

Also if his seat is down then why can't he get to the gas cap??? The gas cap is under the rear rack just aft of the seat. I have never had to open the seat to get to the gas gap! You have to open the seat to get to the oil tank, that's only cause otherwise it's a tad tough to get clear of it.

There is a latch underneath the scooter that you can pull to release the seat---some folks have locked their keys in there by mistake You will need to look around for some type of loop and get something to pull it--not sure excactly where it is as I haven't had to do that myself.

I don't get the gas cap part either... never had to open the seat to refuel my Vino.

Since the scoot is new I'd suggest taking it the dealer. I'm sure they can open it and it should be under warrenty. Just don't tell them he was riding 2 up... the Vino is a one person scoot.

wow... I never knew that, Sooz... I'll have to look for that latch. Lord only knows I'll probably lock my keys in there someday. LOL

Thanks!

Sorry, his scooter isn't an actual Vino. It is one of those scooters that you are able to buy at Pep Boys for like $800. It's a 4-stroke and it looks just like a Vino. I don't own a Vino so I'm not fimiliar with them. The key does turn and the seat just doesn't open. Since he bought it at Pep Boys there was no warrenty so its up to me and him to get it fixed.

hmmm... then maybe one of the clerks at Pep Boys can fix it. ;)

Somehow I doubt that because around here they are the laziest people. It really amazes me at how poor of a customer service job they do.

That's the problem with buying those cheap Asian scoots. No dealer, no mechanics to work on them, probably no warranty, no parts, and now he's going to have to pry his seat open if he can't figure out a way to get it open otherwise, damaging his new scooter in the process. I know he needs to get his phone and stuff out.

Good luck... let us know how it turns out.

No I am unable to reach anything under the seat. I am only able to lift it up like 1/2". Thanks for all of the input though. Hopefully I can get it open at some point without taking a saw to it co--

can you get under the scooter and see if there is anything to grab onto there? I would imagine if it is a clone, the may have made that part the same as the vino since it wouldn't cost those cheapies to do that. Good Luck!

ok...if it opens up via the ignition key.....then there is a cable you could find and grab (maybe it came off?) if it just has a key at the seat...I don't know...I would take off some panels around the seat and expose the latch...or the underside of the seat...use a mirror to look up under there... Just some thoughts....John

Take the cover off that covers the key lock... I'd bet if it's turning and not opening, that the cable let go... or broke...

the part about it happening after hitting a bump would make me start at the latch/seat area ;) He probably bent the latch (Cheap Chinese metal)
