I cut the ground strap back, even with the leading edge of the center electrode. Set the gap at 23 thousandths. There was a very noticable increase in tourqe and a slight gain of top speed. But this does have a small downside. It decreases the plug life to about 500 miles or so. This configuration opens the spark up to the combustion chamber for a much more effective burn. Check out the pic, this is highly reccommended. Road racers have been doing this for decades. http://www.mustangmods.com/data/11413/picture_329.jpg

Are you also indexing the plug as well??
Indexing the plug is when you use different thickness washers under the plug in order to have the open end of the electrode face the exaust port.

no, I've never heard of that one. I may hafta try that. Another one i've heard of though is taking the washer completley off, hoping that it give you increased compression. But i havent done it on the Vino because I dont want to end up having the piston shatter the plug and blow through the cylinder, throwing a rod through the cases. Sounds fun, dosent it?

Actually, you wouldnt want it to face the exhaust port. You would want it to face the intake. And you dont want to do it on a 2 stroke, theres no valves!
Am I right?

Hey superdave, can you give us a step by step on how you did this? Or should I just make my plug look like the one in the pic?

hmm, interesting...
And when I get back from Florida I'll be sure to write up step by step instructions. I'm kinda in a bit of a rush right now so I dont quite have the time. It's simple, just takes a good eye and a hacksaw. I'll be back Monday, see ya then.
