Do you have any ideas how many threads we use to have on the old boards about how to remove those stickers? Also another hot topic was how to get "Yamaha" off the back of the seat!

No, we use to have the old boards open for ref only, but people continued to post, so I had it pulled for good. They no longer exist and the database is gone.

I used a combination of Goo Be Gone and Goof Off (very potent stuff). took a while, but worked well
Removal of warning stickers--might be a good thing for the "How To" section.

Susan, be carefull with the goof off!
The sooner you remove them, the easier it is ;) WD-40 also works well along with a plastic s c r a p er! :naught:

Yeah I know--- put a tad of it on a rag and let it soak into the remaining gummy stuff left from the stickers. It sure stinks. ;;p Goo Gone is nice to work with though and smells pretty good, too.

My Vino is 4 years old and still has the stickers on it so sounds like it may be a bit of a pain to get them off now. Where can I buy Goo Be Gone and Goof Off?
TIA
sooznd
02-20-2005, 02:30 PM
Erika-- you can get Goo Gone at any hardware store--probably even Walmart or Target hardware sections. I'd avoid the Goof Off--as it can ruin the finish on the scooter, plus it is toxic.
If the stickers have been baked on by the sun, it might be harder to get them off--I had to really soak some of mine and the scooter was new.
*Lennox's* suggestion of WD 40 is a good one.

I use tar and wax stripper for "professional painters" it's about $13 a pint... but it strips to the paint pretty well...
only bad thing is that it says that it can "static" spark on plastic... KaaaaaBoom!

After peeling them off, I have used WD-40 or 3M ahesive remover to remove the residue.

I took them off when I took my decals off, only ones I left on were the one two "important" ones on the left side, the tire one and the one with the build date. Otherwise they all came off within a minute or so thanks to my heat gun at work.

Aha, that does work, really well, haha. I was bored a few minutes ago and decieded to see if it works, turns out it does. Then you just need a tooth brush to get all the white crap out of the all the cracks and what not. I only did one side today and I'll take off the other side tomorrow at work, gonna try and see if our 3M adhesive remover does the trick.

cool... I will have to try it as well... I have lots of brake fluid from my VW when I flushed the brakes...
Didn't even think about that as brake fluid is a paint corrosive!
speedy_scooter
08-01-2005, 06:20 AM
not the brake fluid!!! their talking about brake cleaner. brake fluid is very harmful to paint and vinal. if you spill brake fluid on paint it eats away at the paint because it is very corrosive. thats why you have to be carefull with brake fluid when filling it being sure you dont get it on the paint.

So lemme get this straight....a hot air hair dryer will remove the graphic stickers w/ out hurting paint underneath? I dont want to hurt the finish of the paint. How about the warning labels on the rear rack? do they take paint off when removed? The yami logo on the seat comes off with brake CLEANER fluid...cool! Does it hurt the seat in anyway? Can ya tell it was removed? any sign?
Please holler back as these are all things I am currently interested in.

Took mine off with a hair dryer. Heat up the surface real good and start on an edge and pull back real slow. While your pulling back the sticker blow the heat under what you have lifted. It did leave some adhesive residue that I removed with goof off. I had been wondering about the Yamaha stencil on the back of the seat and how I could take it off. Thanks for the answer to that question, BRAKE CLEANER. I will go pick some up and give it a try. :ll

Yeah, be careful with goof-off for sure. Used it on a computer case once and it dissolved the plasic! Goo gone is safe for plastics but not as strong.

But then I'm old and my memory isn't what it used to be. I don't have to dig out the manual to see what the tire pressures should be.
Not that I use the recommended pressures. At my weight I run them 2 pounds over the recommendation.

These warning labels are getting ridiculous for every product. For instance, my brother bought a jar of Nutella (chocolate/hazelnut spread) with a warning label on the lid that says "May have come into contact with traces of peanuts and/or nuts." Wellll, DUH!!!
..stupid..
