Well, I've tried the big speaker magnet trick without positive results.
I've mounted the thing facing both up and down. My magnet is about
3" diameter and seems pretty strong...it just won't trip the lights. I'm
about ready to just try buying one of the one's I've seen advertised to help
motorcycles and bicycles be "seen" by the magnetic sensors in the street.
Anyone use one of these? Any other ideas?

Indy

Here are some tips on how to trip the lights.

Interesting... However most of those sound like wives tails of street light triggers...

The best and most accurate is wait a light and proceed with caution...

My best reccomendation is wait for a car to pull up... however don't waste all day at a light... I wait for max 2 minutes and then go... I've got better things to do than sit at a light that is CRAP and doesn't pick me up... There is one light I hit daily that just takes forever anyway... Watch out for those as if you run them... I'd bet you get into trouble anyway... One that trips quickly but just doesn't change probably won't get you into to much trouble if a cop stops you...

just my 2 pennies worth...

I read a few months ago that someone slowly drives up the middle lane to trip the sensors. Well I tried it the next day, and have been using it since. But it only works on those sensors where the road has four cuts in it that make a circle.

That was my advice... I've only had one light not work with doing that... Just didn't want to go into posting that long one again...

However Dead center in the middle of the lane, pull up and stop about 2 feet or so short of the stop line... Slowly walk the scooter forward... I mean an inch every second or two...

99% of the time it will trip a light... Even works in drive thru restraunts...

All except 1 darn light...

Most lights work fine, but there are a couple that just won't trip.
Oh, well. I'll try rattling some cages at city hall and maybe try
one of those green light magnets that I've seen. Otherwise look
out 'cause I'm coming thru green light or not!

The unit used for emergency vehicles, and mass transit are RF or laser based. I use to have one on my car. They work pretty nice when people pay attention to the signals.

That's the one I've seen too Elliot. I too am skeptical of it's success without
some first hand field testing. I've got a 4" dia. woofer magnet on the
bottom of my scooter and it doesn't trip all the lights, so what chance does
this tiny one have?
If anyone has had experience with the green light magnet please post your
experiences.

Indy

Would it matter which pole (north/south) of the magnet was facing down?

How about an EM Pulse Generator that way you could just fry all the lights and any idiot that's riding too close to your tail :)

Yeah!! i Seen those Sensors the City is Putting new Streets

It ant no DISC or a Plate But Copper Black wires, Thats All, im gonna take a Picture soon The CIRCLE CUTS are Cut a 1 Inch Deep and then the Wire is Stuffed Down into Them ..

indy can you put Electricity into the Magnets!!

My Magnet has a Metal Plate under the Magnet Should i Remove it

indy,King Vino

I Think the Big Cars and Truck Busses!! The Metal that rides over the wire

Has 12 Volt Battery You Know that the Negative is Hooked to the FRAME!

Some how it detects the Electricity & Magnetic waves which emits from the Battery and Generator thru the Cars Metal Frame!! P.S have you ever Washed a Car and Started it and it Seems to Idle Much Faster and has More Power!!!!

Yeah, now you're talkin'. I'm thinking one like used in the Matrix ought to
'git 'er dun' :D

Would it matter which pole (north/south) of the magnet was facing down?

I've tried mine both ways but have the 'pull' side facing down now.

Some how it detects the Electricity & Magnetic waves which emits from the Battery and Generator thru the Cars Metal Frame!!

Electrical current does generate it's own magnetic field...ever
been outside during a lightning storm? So all that wiring in the larger vehicles
does give them a larger magnetic footprint which is why cars and larger trip
the sensor so easily in addition to their already larger mass of metal.

I know that applying an electric current to a wire coiled around a piece of
metal will make it magnetic but I don't know if the same process would
change the properties of a natural magnet. Even if it did I'm not sure that
the small generator would be able to supply enough electricity to make a
big difference. Hey, if it did work I wonder if the city would pay me for picking
up all the little metal crap that falls off peoples cars as I ride my scoot? :D

Anyway, I may try to find one of those green light magnets and see what it
can do. Worst case I'm out $11 for a fancy refrigerator magnet.

Indy

There are Lots of Diffrent Magnets Magnets Standard and EARTH Magnets

you know the Earth magnets that keep Are Planet Spining!! :)

Let me know if it works the Picture of the Unit Magnets are no bigger then the Speaker Magnets we Use..
Yeah!! Indy lots of Nails and Screews & Bolts

Indy how about a Big Gaint nail like at the Hardware store and Rap it with wire and Install a switch to and from the Battery 12V just for a few seconds!!

i wonder would it short out the battery i read something up there about not using no more then 6 -7 Volts..

i can trigger it buy doing a wheelie and slaping kinda hard on the line. works about 88% time the rest ther are cops around :( .
i have seen some people put the elites and zumas side ways on the line and get the green like really fast.

some guy here one year in the winter in a really bad snow storm walk to the signel box cut the lock and wired a line with a switch to the middel of the round and it would switch the colors on the lights.
that lasted 5 month when we had a peraid and the police went to stop taffic on the one side they found the line but never found out who did it

Elliott, good links. I have to admit, I'm glad to see why spread use of the new LEDs systems kick in. The LEDs are great, they do not reflect in bad weather, and are easy to see even during sunrise and sunset while driving in to the sun. The distance the lights can be seen from is rough a 35% increase over incandescents.

i agree LED save lifes some people here ride pocket pockets on the street if it wasn't for the bright LEDS i think the would have been hit.

Hey has any would put a yamaha BWS brake like on ther zuma?

I've mentioned it in the old thread on the old board. All our cars on the PD were getting retrofitted with these units when I went OOS, I know all of Baltimore's city busses and light rails vehicles are equipped with them as well. Baltimore was one of the first cities in the country to utilize this technology in the late 80's. DC was a little slower in adopting this. Fire trucks, Ambulances, First Responders, and oddly enough SHA trucks are equipped as well.

What's a SHA truck?

I'm probably gonna feel really dumb because it's probably some obvious acronym that I can't think of right now.
