Hey guys... I'm new to the scooter modding world! got a new 05 zuma (today!) and want to do some mods.

I live at sea leval (+/- 25'), 280lbs, flat ground, always warm (in florida)...

I'm guessing I want to spend $300-400 or so the first time around, and then
will spend more later if needed.

I want to buy parts that can be used later if I decide (which I probably will)
to do more mods (70cc, etc)... I don't want to buy a part and then have
to re-buy a new part later.

Here is what I'm thinking:

stage1, rider over 200lbs, rs pipe, kevlar belt...

some extra plugs, the oil that provo sells....

Is that pipe and Variator in the stage1 kit good or should I get something else?

Thanks for the help guys... I can't wait to start tuning

also.... Is there anything else I should do to/with it?

IE: always use 93oct+ fuel, etc etc etc?

Hi BlitzK :)

$300 will get you into the Stage One kit with a Kevlar belt and the lighter red Malossi vario rollers. The RS pipe will give you better low and midrange performance, the Next R wil give you more top end performance at the expense of low rpm performance. If you plan on going to a 70cc kit later you will need a new pipe (i.e. a Tecnigas RS 70), where as the Next R is a crossover pipe and works with the 50cc and 70cc cylinders.

If you do order the Stage One kit ask Erich to substitute the Malossi MultiVar for the standard Technomoto VarioPlus, as most people find it to be a superior piece. It may cost $10 or so more, but Erich does stock the MultiVar.

You're a pretty big guy and will likely need to tune your variator for pull vs. speed. I suspect you will eventually want to go to stage two to get satisfactory performance, but stage one will give you noticable improvement.

Go ahead and browse the forum as Lennox suggests, as we discuss these issues all the time and your questions have likely been answered a hundred times before, but please feel free to ask anything!

Sorry if I came off wrong earlier..... Its just that when a new members first post is asking the same thing that is already answered, I try to steer them to the "archives" first.

Where in Florida are you? Where did you get the Zumas? I couldn't agree with you more about 1 scoot not being anough!

I will suggest to go to stage 2 right away. With the rider weight, the stage one only won't be enough, even I (140#) want more power than just the stage one. Beside, the main point is you will get to stage 2 anyway, why not now and save the installation time. Just to let you know a stage 2 with RS pipe will be pretty loud. Next-r is a quieter pipe, but less low end torque than RS...Alos, I heard a guy use RS50 with a 70cc kit and the result is quite good also.

The main reason I don't want to go with stage2 right now is warranty issues. Maybe after I've owned them a bit (the one only has about 5 miles on it) I'll upgrade to stage2... which I will do eventually.

I'm in the tampa/st.pete area, btw...

ANYTHING you do to your scooter will void part of the warrenty! PERIOD!

some places are as bad as if you run synthetic oil, it would void anything to do with where the oil travels... IE: lines, tank, pump, cylinder, exhaust...

but some are not as anal on it as others...

So stage 1, coudl very possibly be as bad as stage 2...

I talked to my dealer... He said adding an aftermarket pipe would be OK (and he even pointed me to a few places that sold them), but that the 70cc upgrade would void it.

got the second one the other day....

I opted NOT to get the extended warr... so I think this one might be a 70cc project

The zuma I have now will get stage1 as soon as it gets here from the UPS man!

Make that the USPS man... even better... means it will get here quicker!

I'll take some pics of the install

okay... Besides USPS is cheaper for faster service than UPS...

makes since to use them to me...

Glad your parts are on the way...

You'll have to let us know how it RIPS once you get the parts installed.

I should get my stage-1 on tuesday and install it on wed or thursday..

If the stage-1 install goes well, I'll be ordering up a full stage2+ for my other zuma.
