Greetings:

I am completing a restoration process on this 1987 Aero, purchased from Pal Hal. He had won it in a Houston auction after bidding on a whim. It was wheeled to the back of his garage where it sat untouched for 7 years. He had purchased a carb rebuild kit in 2006 but only added this to his list of projects for "one of these days".

Seeking something to keep me busy, I asked him if he'd ever have enough time between 3 other motorcycles to devote to getting the Aero running. We quickly agreed that Flash needed more attention than he could provide, and a price was agreed.

Fuel system caked with 7 years' worth of evaporated fuel, leaving a substance with properties between those of amber and ceramic. Eventually the tank and carb were clean. Started like a champ with its stock 50cc displacement, but I quickly appreciated that it was too slow to be safe even for commuting on urban surface streets. It got up to 35 fairly quickly, but 38 was absolute tops, and most cars run 45 around here.

Click goes the mouse, and a Polini 65cc kit was installed along with a Keli High Speed Variator and 1000 over center spring. The needle pegged quickly after break-in - "peg" is at 40 mph. However it feels like more power is available but stuck in the VST equivalent of 2nd gear. Malossi gears ordered have yet to arrive.

With 7 bikes in my past, including current 2002 Sportster 1200S, this is my first scooter. Riding attitude is different due to quirky handling and slower speeds, but it's 2 wheels and a lot of fun. Honda fans can get lots of information at hondaspree.net.
