have some Q's for you guys...

I have 2002 Vino with about 200KM on it I didn't really get a chance to ride it before i did the exaust mod on it so i dont really know what kind of performance increase it really had. I can get the vino up to about 50KPH max...so now im thinking of doing the variator restriction mod to it. Just wondering what will I notice after this has been done? faster top speed ? better acceleration?

I also notice that the idle of the bike seems differ all the time, 1 day it seems to be idleing very high causing the back wheel to spin very fast, other days seems normal. Is there somthing that I can check or do to fix this little problem? I was thinking about replacing the Spark and maybe changing the oil...this bike has been sitting in front of some guys house for the last couple of years.

Is there any other tweaks or tips that you would like to share?

Thanks alot...Great site!

The idling issue could be simply the fact that the scooter hasn't warmed up yet, that the engine is cold. Usually once the motor warms up the RPMs will drop, that's the auto-choke doing it's job. My Vino does that all the time it seems.

hey blackvino:

where are you located?

i've got a 2002 as well in ottawa. i also find that the more i ride mine, the better it runs. it almost feels a bit more 'loose', if you will. king vino also once said that around 1000 miles or so, the engine runs even better and may even go a little quicker.

i did the variator derestrict and i gained about 4, maybe 5kms on the top end. it's really tough to hit 60Kmh, but i have going down hill, on a good day.

i haven't done the exhaust derestrict yet, cause i've got one of those upside down welded cones that has to be drilled out. i haven't taken the time to do that. apparently, with that done, you get more acceleration.

after you did your exhaust, did you have to rejet your carb? sometimes you do, depending on altitude. i'm thinking i may take it to a mechanic to get that done...just to be sure.

cheers,
c.

To answer your multivar deregulation question, you'll just get a few extra mph. I didn't notice much of an increase in acceleration, that came from the exhaust deristriction. Just a lil heads up, if you do the multivar dereg. make sure that when you put everything back on the that everything is lined up (with the teeth on the tans. shaft) and everything is bolted down tight! If you don't match the grooves then your gonna strip the lil teeth on the transmission... not a good thing.

I'm located in Toronto....

I just finished the variator and was pretty dissapointed, still only doing about 50KPH max (except for down hill). My goal is to hit 60KPH thats it...then I'll be happy.

I also have the exaust derestrict done...but didnt rejet the carb. I only have 200KM on mine so maybe it will get faster (I hope)

Thanks for the reply...

blackvino,
i was a bit disappointed with the var dereg as well. i can't cruise on parkways here cause everyone's doing 60kmh...that seems to be the magic number.

i think without going to stage one there are a couple more things you can do. there are some posts on here about better, larger tires. those will increase your speed slightly. also, i don't know how great the stock belt is on these puppies. i've also read here that going to a kevlar belt will help out as well (ie: less slippage). anyway, those couple of tiny mods might help out. if i don't make the jump to a 125, i may try those...

i've only got 675kms on mine....i'm hoping to see the engine get better over time. i'd love to be doing 60. my pal has an '81 beluga and she blows me out of the water when we go riding!

go leafs go,
c.

There was a big difference in the performance of my Malaguti Yesterday (minerelli 50) between 200km and 500km. I put on the performance pipe, 6gm rollers, and took out the restricter ring at 150km. This took it from a top speed of 30mph (48kph) to 50mph (80kph). And it really did a nice job with the acceleration. I have since mixed 5gm and 6gm rollers to add some more low end acceleration without hurting my top end speed...but anyway, it did get better as I got more kms on the dial as the engine and final drive broke in...
