Just received a new Jonway TK50QT-5 scooter as a gift and I have no user manual for it. Anyone got any idea on the basic maintenance needs? I'm really a newbie when it comes to this. Specifically, I have no clue:
A. What type of gas (I assume standard unleaded but can I just put the cheap grade 87 in there or use the 91 stuff? Do I need to mix it with anything?
B. What kind of oil to use? Someone told me any standard 4 stroke oil is ok.
C. How often do I need to change the oil/brake fluid/other fluids?

Sorry for sounding so ignorant...

Thanks!

that tells me it is a 2STROKE. DO NOT put 4 STROKE motor oil in it or it will be trouble.

You need to look for an oil resivour and put oil in. If the scooter is stock (no motor mods) 87 cheap gas is fine.

There really is no oil to change like in your car except for the gear lube in the drive. Break fluid should last A WHILE!

From the sounds of your Questions, it seams as though you are not mechanicly inclined??? If not, have a friend help.

Just ride it and have fun!!

How can you tell its a 2 stroke, by the model name?

yes, I'm not a mechanic by far. I can do most things if I have a manual or someone shows me once, but I'm completely new to motorcycles/scooters.

I have a cap that has a dipstick on it, I assume this is the oil reservoir? Its down on the right side right above the exhaust

Forgot to answer your ?'s-

A: 87 is fine
B: You have a 4 banger so yes, any 4 banger oil should be fine
C: Change your oil after about 500 miles when things have broken in is what I was told but I am sure there will be 283 responces on when really is the best time to do this 1st maintance. 1st 1000 miles vary your speed and don't crack the throttle all the way.

I was more saying in the 50cc range I prefer 2 bangers vs. 4 bangers.

The Jonway TK50QT-5 moped is equipped with a 49.5cc, 4-stroke engine. You do not mix 2-cycle oil in your fuel. The dip stick you referred to is indeed on the right side of the scooter and is where you check and fill the oil for the crankcase. Use a good quality 10w-30 weight motor oil. The manufacturer also recommends running premium fuel rather than 87 octane. Enjoy the ride!!
