This is the WORST variator i have ever had...Not even 300 miles on it and it has torn everything up(belts, sliding v bushings, etc.)I would not suggest buying this variator..i am not at all satisfied with mine..the metal is of a cheap quality, either that or i got a defective one.I hope there is something that can be done..

Sure you're not missing a washer? It amazes me how often I see new multivars that are short a washer causing all sorts of mayhem.

You may want to see if using the washer that came with the kit and the washer that was already on your scoot at the same time will help the issue. In most cases it will.

I dunno fellas, my variator ain't doin to good either. After maybe 50miles I opened her up just to see if everything was nice and cheecky, only to find that the rollers already had wear on them and were also wearing down the variator metal itself. Granted, it was very little and maybe on only 2 or three rollers. Is this normal?
(I have the washer installed also)

I forgot the washer on mine when I installed it.. I placed the original one back in there but didn't add the second one... I have since placed the washer (original) before all the other parts and teh one with the kit before the nut that holds it all togeather...

That's the best combo I could find...

What good would having the second washer behind the nut do? I think you only need one washer. Or if you were to put both in, they should be right next to each other to do anything. Wouldn't you think?

The original washer is in the inside of all the other variator parts... Then when I place all the rest of the parts on and bolt it down my finned outside piece wobbles... So I added the second washer just before the bolt and (HUGE washer) on the outside of the kickstart gear... This moves the finned piece in a hair more and no more wabble...

I had a large amount of belt shreads inside my case when I 1st opened it up... Now I have a very tiny amount and am happy with knowing it is not slipping due to being to loose or wobbling!

See thats what im talking about...ive already been been through the wobble thing and fixed that.Im talking about the same thing as Davey is...the metel itself on the inside of the variator is wearing..not only the metal where the rollers are,but where the guides are at the top of the variator is almost completly gone...i had to go back to the stock variator just to ride it again..otherwise,it gets stuck in second gear..

Well, a lot of people have told me BAD things about tecnomoto variator... and I've seen pics to prove it. But a lot of people have had no problem with these variators even after a million miles! You probably just got a bad one, m3ster just found out he had a defective variator too. Contact Erich, see what he thinks. As for mine, I'm gonna try useing two washers and give it a few miles.

Davey, I've said it before and I'll say it again, everyone expects these part to be Plug and Play, with little to no experience whatsoever in doing anything mechanically with scooter parts. 99% of everything I've seen on here is resolved in a ten minute call to Erich, and it's always a washer, or a nut, something so stupid. And I'm sure the guys on the Yamaha-Scooter boards who do t he *****ing aren't getting Erich help.

I agree that there have been some issues with the Tecnomoto variators, but at the same time I sell hundreds a year, so a few issues is not uncommon. I have had about 3 that had the brass pressed fit bushing inside of the variator come out and have been totally replaced under warranty, so if anyone has this issue, let me know and i'll be happy to replace it.

There are a few other issues with the TNG/Vento var that i had come across due to the fact that I have to mod those by hand. Those issues have been taken care of as well, and I am also doing another install on a TNG next week, so if there is any other issues, I will have them taken care of.

Ray, if you need my help, just ask, I will be happy to help you in your issue, and if your var is defective it is totally covered. It only takes an email to let me know.

That goes for everyone. If you think you have a defective part, just shoot me an email and I'll be happy to help you out. Customer support is something that I take pride in.

my brass bushing seems to have "popped" out also. There is also wear around it, so it must have been spinning. This spinning heated up the metal, and melted my "V" slides.

Whats the best way to get ti replaced under "warranty"?

So....

Are we chaukling this up to "operator error" or "few bad apples" or ____?

I guess what I am asking is would this be the best variator to get or are there better ones out there?

Another ? would be it seems like certain brands like to be used in conjunction with certain or the same brand- am I correct in saying that?

I ordered a malosi vari, should have it soon. Once I get it i'll post on the quality compared to the "TECHNO"
