Last year my engine stopped running. I brought in to Yamaha and the engine was needing a rebuild. The stock reeds from Yamaha are metal and a piece broke off and got sucked into the engine. Causing all kinds of problems. The engine was fixed on warranty, BUT they put the same broken reeds back in during the rebuild. The scooter is now off warranty so I ordered carbon reeds from Provoscooter. I highly recommend changing your reeds to something not made of metal after warranty. It is an easy job to do and should cost you under $100 with shipping if your from Canada. You may be able to remove the metal reeds and replace with carbon keeping the cage. Make the change and you will have a more reliable scooter and it will perform better.

this was a stock motor when the reeds broke?
Carbon is definatly CHEEP insurance. Smart move.

I have a pipe on it. So maybe the higher revs stressed the metal reeds.

The stock metal reeds on my stock Vino went about 18,000 miles before needing replacement. Cost was $15 for the parts. Nothing broke, they just quit sealing.
$15 vs. $50 - $60. And people wonder why I stay stock?

Actually, here in the US you can get the fiber reeds and cage for about $35. to your door. Our neighbors in the north pay a bit more. As Lennox said "Cheap Insurance". Why gamble? Big loss for the loser.

Because the steel reeds lasted 18,000 miles versus about 5,000 for the glass ones for half the price?

as you can see in my pic sometimes the reeds fail and it costs you an engine
