I drove a Vino 125 today and I surprised how much more engine vibration there was than a Metro although the ride was a little smoother.
Are there any other small scooters out there that are smother and as quiet as the Metropolitan because I'm looking to get one.
Thanks for your time.

Try Kymco or a SYM scooter if any dealers are close by.

What Metro did you ride? If it was a Honda then it was a 50cc. Yamaha makes a Vino 50cc. What are you looking for a 125cc or a 50cc?

It was a Honda. I didn't know there was a 50cc Vino.
The Kymco dealer didn't have any 50's so I'll have to wait till he gets more in.
Thanks to the both of you guys for responding.

My point was, if you are looking for a 50cc scooter ride other 50cc's. You can't compare a 125cc to a 50cc. Yamaha scooters have a very distinctive sound and feel. More like a motorcycle than the sewing machine sounding scooters you see on the streets. The Vino Classic is a 50cc, it looks just like the Vino 125 except smaller. Here is a link to the 09 Classic's. The 08 Classic's are the same except for the available colors. Oh yeah, don't believe the 110 mpg either, it's a myth.

The only reason I tried the Vino is the Honda dealer took it on trade and since he didn't sell them new he thought I'd like to try it out. But you're right about the big difference in the feel and sound of these two.

The other big difference between a 50cc and a 125cc is the motorcycle license. Some States require a motorcycle license for anything over 49cc, but not for a 49cc. Some States require a motorcycle license for the 49cc as well.
Here in Illinois all two wheel motorized vehicles except a Moped (pedacycle as they call them) or a motorized bicycle require a motorcycle license.

I'm in Wisconsin and a regular driver's license is all you need for 50cc or less that's why I'm looking at them.

Just to interject and correct, Illinois does not require MC licensing for the 50cc, not at least in the part where I am.

Better Check Illinois Motor Vehicle Laws my friend. Here is the "D" Driver's license criteria concerning motor scooters. This was taken right off the State of Illinois Motorcycle laws
#1. A motor-driven cycle with max speed of 30 mph or less.
#2. Equipped with a motor of 2 brake horsepower or less.
#3. The dispacement shall not exceed 50cc.
#4. Power drive system shall not require the operator to shift gears.
All four criteria must be met, otherwise it is a Motor-Driven Cycle
and a Class L is required. 99.9% of the motor scooters on the road violate
numbers 1 and 2.

You stated in your original message that ALL except a moped require an upgraded license. A STOCK Vino 50 (49cc) falls into 1,2,3 and 4. Unless of course the state wants to dyno every scooter and prove otherwise.
I'm just saying, I hope you didn't run out and get a special license just for your scooter. According to your profile, you're driving illegally based on you interpretation of Illinois scooter laws.

I have a stock Vino 50cc and it does not fall into #1 or #2. My post was not my interpretation - the information was taken verbatem from the State Motorcycle laws. The only thing I added was the "99.9% of the motor scooters -----etc". Whether you choose to have the proper license is your business.

How many bhp does your stock Vino have? How fast does you unmodified (stock) Vino go?

I GPS's my stock Vino when it had 1400 miles on it, at 37.9 mph. They are rated at 35-40 mph.
The Vino Classic 49cc has around 3.0 bhp. I read somewhere at one time it was rated a 3.2, but I cannot find it now. I have a friend who has a Chinese Roketa 4 stroke 49cc and it is rated a 3.3.

I understand, pal, but that means that your Vino has been derestricted in some fashion, either variator or exhaust or both. OR you weigh something like 60 pounds. For all intents and purposes, the mandatory federal restrictions keeps it at or below 30mph.
Which brings me back to my previous statement; unless the state of Illinois or its various municipalities wants to dyno test these things, they're going to have to take the word of the importer that these are incapable of speed and therefore, do not require anything other than a basic motor vehicle license.
Once we screw with these scooters then maybe they require special licensing, but not from the showroom floor.

Well I can tell you - Pal, My Vino Classic is an 07, I bought last year "new" from the Dealer. It is completely stock. I am 5'10" and weigh 185-190 lbs and the scoot will do 38 mph. My wife is 5'4" and weighs 125-130 lbs and she can redline the speedo. I can also tell you - Pal, there are a couple guys I sometimes ride with. One has 07 Metro 4 stroke 50cc and the other has a 08 Roketa 4 stroke 50cc, they can both do over 35 mph. I can also tell you Pal, if you have a 4 stroke 50cc scooter and are riding it in Illinois without a motorcycle license, just don't get caught. Evidently you don't comprehend what I am saying or refusing to accept it, that's your problem, I am not wasting any more of my time trying to explain it to you. Ciao

Could have fooled me. I pegged you a lib all the way. At least we have something in common. Now if you could just get it through your head that you need a Motorcycle license to operate a 49cc scooter in Illinois, we would be jake.

Out of curiosity, what made you think that I was a lib? In reality, I make Rush look like a wild eyed lib. (ok, maybe not that much, just wanted an excuse to refer to them as "wild eyed" here.)
I understand that you read the law, I was surprised however because I've been pulled over twice, as has my nephew, and neither of us had been told of this by the polizia.
The cop did ask my nephew why he was able to do 40 mph on his but that was as far as it went. My nephews is derestricted, mine is Stage 1 Plus.

I think Police have a tendency to go easy on scooters. The real problem is if you have an accident. If you are driving illegally, your insurance may be voided.

Untrue, there is no restriction on the scooters that limit them to 30mph.
I have a 2006 and it did 40mph bone stock.

here in MN vino 50 are classified as MC based upon power output and top speed in stock form. a Vino 50 can go well above 30mph. a 125 can go 60 on flat ground. (well at least mine does) although Yamaha states max of 58 (max speed rating of the tires)

I realize this is an old thread, and I'm not about to get into the license thing. Here in AZ, ALL scooters require a motorcycle endorsement. The ONLY exception is 50cc PEDAL mopeds, which only require a drivers license, but they still require registration, plates, and insurance. I don't know about any other states.
My main reason for posting on this thread is to run down the Honda Metro. I had one for a while, and it is the slowest thing on 2 wheels. Yes, it will cruise at near 40 mph, but it takes 1/2 hour to reach that speed. I swear a turtle could outrun this thing off the line. I put several thousand miles on mine, mostly riding on rural country roads, where you can ride it to the far right, like a bicycle. In town, it is a suicide machine. You are in serious danger of being run over from behind, especially at stoplights, and you can't ride to the far right, as that is for bicycles only. I also had a 50cc Zuma, and it was a rocket compared to the Met, so there are faster 50cc scooters out there.

I own a yamaha vino classic 50cc 4 stroke no mods, it will go 40 MPH no problem on flat ground and i weigh 176 pounds and i gotta say i'm very happy with it, runs great runs smooth and a great classic look
If you buy a scooter expecting motorcycle performance you will be disappointed,if you buy it for what it is you will be very happy :spiny:

If you have a stock Classic 50cc 4T and can go 40 mph that is a pretty good trick. It so happens the Classic is rpm limited at 38 mph.
