I own a 1986/1987 Yamaha CE50T. It has 1500 miles on it and is in excellent condition. I’m having a problem at mid-range (22-25mph) cruise. It hesitates and cuts out. It doesn’t die just misses. Sometimes bad. This problem started about 2 months ago. Top speed has always been about 40-43 mph. Now it will still obtain top speed but it takes along time to get there. When I first start it up and run it seems to run fine. It pulls through the mid range, however, 75% of the time after it warms up (10-15 minutes running at mid to 3/4 speed) it starts this miss. I have changed the plug, plug wire, plug boot & plug wire cap. I have also changed the coil. I bought a carb kit and rebuilt the carb. The carb wasn’t really dirty. I have played with the e-clip on the needle. I adjusted it one groove up and one groove down. It ran sluggish-rich and lean the other way. There is an electric choke that attached to the carb. The dealer said it was an electric choke and has nothing to do with mid range cruise, however, when I disconnected it I think it stopped missing, but it acted like it was running rich and wouldn’t idle very long without loading up. I could really use some help. I called all of the local dealers, even one in San Francisco and due to the age of the scooter nobody will work on it, however, they would sell me another one. Yea-right.
I would like to get this scooter running again. Then I want to install a 70cc bigbore kit. If anybody has any info on this I would appreciate it. I’m not looking top speed, but more mid-range pull.
Respectfully Submitted,
Andy
