The scooter smokes (blue) when started after a few days rest. It
will eventually stop after the engine runs for about 15 minutes.
It will misfire a little during this time.
I topped the oil to 1" below the filler neck so I can see the level.
After two days not using the scooter, the level was down over 1/4 inch.
After one week without using the scooter, I can't see the oil
level. Looks like it is leaking through the autolube pump!!
Is there some kind of restrictor that opens with pump
pressure?? Anyone have any ideas??

yeah...
This is why I love the oil pump!
anyway, The blue smoke is oil burning... you probably have a bunch of oil to start out with when it's first starting... Besides that the 2 stroke engine is supposed to smoke blue... it's the oil burning with the gas... if it did not smoke, then I'd be really worried...
as far as it leaking.... the oil pump has fins inside that should keep the oil from flowing until it spins... however if it's leaking... then you might have a bad pump... take it in under warrenty if it's still good... if not, remove it and premix... there is a how to in the (blue bar above) that tells you how to disable the oil pump...

Stinkin snow!! Where are you?
Thanks for the reply.
More info. The scooter was not used for about 14 days. It was very hard to start this morning (usually starts very very quickly). Once it did start, it smoked a lot for about 15 minutes then started to decrease. After about 20-25 minutes it was normal 2-cycle smoke.
After running it for about 1/2 hour, I filled the oil tank and noted the level. I removed the small oil line from the pump to the carb and let it hang over a small container. I'll watch for visual leaks and monitor the oil level in the tank. Is there anything else that could cause this? BTW, there is NO OIL in the gas; it is virgin 87 octane. The cycle has 600 miles on it and the warranty is no longer valid. I checked the plug and it had oil on it. Cleaned, checked the gap and installed.

it sounds to me like you are just starting your bike and riding off without letting the bike warm up. a 2stroke is going to smoke like that and sound like its misfiring until it clears out. if your bike ran like that even after it warmed up then you would have problems, but it sounds like your bike is normal, nothing to worry about just keep oil in that oil tank.

Thanks for responding.
This is a new problem that started at around 350 miles. If I don't use it for about 2 days, when it is first started, there is a lot of smoke. But it does start fairly quickly. It looks like a diesel backhoe warming up.
If the scooter is not started for about two weeks, it takes a while to get it started. Once it has been running for about 25 minutes, I see normal 2-cycle smoke. Prior to this problem, it started instantly with no excessive smoke.
Yesterday, I started it (took a while because I haven't used it for about 2 weeks), then let it run until the smoke stopped. Shut it off, disconnected the oil line from the pump to the carb, checked the oil level in the tank then let it sit overnight. This morning, the oil level did not change and no oil came out of the oil line.
As I noted in my original post, after coming home, I filled the oil tank, noted the level (in the filler neck) then let it sit. The oil level went down without using the scooter.
Is it possible that a vacuum is being created in the carb after the engine is shut off that sucks the oil through the pump for a short time?

is oil leaking out anywhere? could be as simple as a cracked tank, or a loose hose???

No oil leaks; garage floor is spotless.

Sounds like you have a bad pump.
The pump seems to be allowing oil to just seep past it. If it's letting it seep past it, then it's also not pumping it correctly (too much or too little). You can check it by disconnecting the oil delivery line and letting it hang down from the oil pump to something to catch the oil. If it dribbles out without the engine being run then it's seeping out past the oil pump and the pump needs to be tossed (get another or run premix).
Hopefully your plug is black from too much oil, and not white from too little. Pull the plug and check it. If it's nasty black oily then the engine isn't damaged - but you may need to clean the cylinder out.
Talk to your Yamaha dealer about the pump. If it's not too long out of the warranty then they might cover it (a bad pump is usually a manufacturing defect and not something that you caused). You didn't let it run out of oil did you? Normally if you let it run out of oil long enough to damage the pump then you also scored up your cylinder. If your cylinder is fine the it's just a bad pump.
Good luck.
