Tell me about scooters made by Qianjiang and marketed by TN'G, Vento, and a company called Max Scooters. What is the reliability like on these guys? Are they worth the $$ or is a Kymco ZX50 or Yamaha Zuma better?

I'm a mod on here now, so I try to restrain my language and opinions with a little more tact these days. But I serviced a Geely once, and swore I'd rather take a chance on cheating on Elise than service another off make. (Elise is looking over my shoulder and muttering something about the hedge clippers. Use some imagination!) I don't mind the TNG as much. They still got a long way to go, but I like them more than Geely or Vento.

I have a 2003 Vento Zip R3 with 4500 miles, and have not had ONE problem. The vento has the same motor as the Zuma. I think with proper tuning they are fairly reliable!

Aren't Vento and TN'G the same scoot?
Who makes the engine for the Zuma?

Let me clear up a little confusion. Here is the break down of all the scooters I have had extensive experience with:
TNG: Good bikes, very similar to Yamaha with minor differences, more bling for the money (remote start, cover, etc.), great dealer and manufacturer support, EPA approved.
Vento: Reliability is about the same as TNG, high. Shady company, however. Poor dealer and manufacturer support. Not EPA approved, and some bikes that are supposed to be 150 4-strokes, are really 125's, and some 50cc 2-strokes are actually 100cc 2-strokes. They deny this, but I have measured cylinders.
Yamaha: Great bikes, dealer support, manfacturer support. All scoots are made in Taiwan. Great quality.
Geely
Wet chain drive: I wouldn't walk across the street to set fire to one. Horrible everything.
Dry belt drive: About the same as Vento, with a bit of a shady company, and not great support.
Most of the chinese "knock-offs" are about the same. The dry belt drives are really similar to the yamaha motor, but to say the are the same and come out of the same factory, etc., is a falsehood, and anyone that says that does not know what they are talking about, especially the people that are selling them. If they say they use a Yamaha motor, that is also false. All these scooters, including the Yamaha use a motor that was designed in Europe by a company called Minerelli, hence the reason they are called the Minerelli Horizontal motor.
I hope this clears up some confusion.

Oh g-d don't reminds me, that Geely I had was a chain drive. I kept breaking the sprockets trying to get the chain off. I've come to like the Kymcos in a strange bizzar sort of way.

Impressive guys. Thanks for the info. I do like the Kymco myself. Although I like that fact that I've heard the Zuma gets up to 40mph or so. The TN'G style is nice. I was just concerned about support and parts.
I had just purchased a QingQi which was a real headache. Glad I got rid of that.
Thanks for the help.

Yeah, Kymco isn't too bad, their support is fair. Better than TNG's.

Dude I would love a 100cc badged as a 50cc'er!!!

Ok...three more questions, because everyone is very knowledgable...
1.) Do the TN'G LS's really get up to 40mph?
2.) What are the problems one usually runs into with TN'G/Vento scooters? Any particular area of issue?
3.)What is better Qianjiang or QingQi?
The chinese copy everyone, including themselves. Just because they may look the same doesn't mean they are the same.

like i have said before, i like my vento because i bought it with tecnigas tek exhaust and have went about 50-55mph. i am really wanting to know why everyone else with what i thought was the same motor is trying to get to the 40mph range. but i do agree that trying to get parts locally sucks. i over torqued and broke one of my exhuast bolts and needed a new gasket ( i really wondered why i got so loud), it seems like nobody at the three shops that i went to had ever seen a flat gasket on the minerelli, the parts books all showed different washer gaskets ( sometimes called donut gaskets ). though in my search i did find out that if you have an old set of big block chevy header gaskets you can cut out two new scooter gaskets from each one, and they are alot better quality, until someones tells me where i can get felpro gaskets for the scoot.

I can put the old 302HO motor from my old 90, SCCA Mustang racer in a 80 ST but it's not going to perform the same. Granted my 90 GT and the 80 GT are both Fox chassis Mustang, and even used the same body and chassis plus/minus a few cosmetic changes, they aren't the same car. Same applies to the Vino/Vento/Venice, they may look the same, have the same motor, but are not the same underneath it all.

The Venice does do 38-40mph, just go ride one.
The problems are virtually non-existant with TNG/Vento's, just the standard issues that come with any scooter.
Anything is better than any Q***qgi/ang scooters. I would rather walk. No joke. If you have one, sell it. If you are looking at one, look away, if you just bought one, I am truly sorry.

I gotta throw in my two cents, after researching all the different types of scooters (reasonably priced of course.) I discovered the TNG Venice to be the best for me. My wife and I have owned and ridden our for two weeks now. They are sweeeeet! No complaints, no problems. I have dissasembled the rear brakes to clean them. They had started to squeak on me, and that just sounds cheap in my eyes. What are you going to do. They are fine now. They get up and go to 40 on level grounds with me weighing a buck seventy. Slight inclines about 35. Overall I dig the style and the ride itself. Well worth it and I hope they remain reliable for many years to come.
Happy scootin...

okay i know this thread is a month old, but now i gotta put in MY two cents as well...
if a Venice is really just as good, comes with all those extra features.. (man i'd sure appreciate a free lock and cover...) AND costs a lot less, then i'm feelin super ripped off with my Vino here... wtf?!
is this feeling justified? or is a Vino really worth more in some way, shape, or form?

my ls49 goes 46 stock
Larry Andersen

Is that on a stock LS49? Mine with 1726 MILES on it will only do 36-37 on level ground. I weigh about 210 lbs.
I got my vento up to 45mph and i am 250 pounds (tall not fat :D )
but i have a problem with it dieing at times

I just recently purchased a Seville Turbo Pro my local scooter shop..The sales person told me that it was the exact same thing as a Qianjiang QJ50QT-2G. He told me that Qianjiang, the chinese motorcycle company, makes this scooter and then there are 10-15 other companies that buy the kits and then re-badge the scooters as their own. I did a little research and found 6 bikes that are the exact same as mine. I have only had the bike for 3 days
They all have the exact same specs.
Here they are:
PUMA QJ50QT-2
Viaggio RX50
Qianjiang QJ50QT-2G
Vento Zip R3i
Transnational Maxxi 50cc
Скутер QJ50QT-2

if it dies at idle, try turning up the idle speed. As for the Venice, my wife loves hers, and I loved the price (saved enough money off the Yammy for upgrades.) Made in china under TNG supervision. Good quality, I'd say, plus their parts catalog is online with MSRP for all parts! No dealer gouging allowed! I ordered parts from my dealer and got them the same week.

Thats awesome, 45mph at 250lbs. I weigh 125 and my LS can do 40mph stock.

Here they are:
PUMA QJ50QT-2
Viaggio RX50
Qianjiang QJ50QT-2G
Vento Zip R3i
Transnational Maxxi 50cc
Скутер QJ50QT-2
the zip (not r3i) should only be on that list as the r3i is a special vento only package with 12" rims and a spoiler instead of a rear rack
tho i have seen many a knock off, the problem with the knock offs is that they are not gonna have the same quality as the other more refuted versions of the same bike (ie vento versus some weird brand)
