View Full Version : Similar Performance issues - ???

Seems like there is a problem shared with many here on this forum. People are having similar problems with their scooters not performing and in most cases the problems are almost exactly the same.
Is there somthin we are missing ? I can think of 4 people in the last week who have had issues regarding poor performance, i.e., loss of acceleration, no powerband, short powerband.
I work on all my motorized vehicles myself, I know I installed my stage 1 correctly, so why does it raddle so much while I'm idleing and where is my accleration and powerband ? Leads me to beleive its the equipment I purchased and installed.
Whats going on here ? Have we all purchased lemons ? that is the only conclusion I can come up with. It would seem if we are all having the same problems there would be a known solution and no one seems to be able to point out something that would lead to fixing these performance issues.
Help !

This isn't geared at you Brad at all, but my overall experience with being on Provo for over a year now, and working at the YMC for a summer.
I think the majority of the problems are that 95% is the folks buying performance parts have little to no experience with mechanical installs or trouble shooting. And the ones who do, don't realize the nature of working on two stroke motors which is very different than four strokes. Two strokes are very temperamental, what one does another will not. I had all kinds of issues too when I first bought my Vino. After a few installs and derestrictions, I haven't had any more issues with doing any installs. You'll note that usually after everyone posts an issue, and someone replies, they manage to get their scooters running.
I think the other problem was on the old board no one bothered to search for old posts where the same question had been asked and answered forty times before, which prompted me to bug James B for an FAQ, something Erich is working on personally. The other thing is that it seemed no one would read the TUNING or HOW TO sections of the board that would have answered the majority of these questions. Having talked to the guys at Badmotorscooters, they say they often encounter the same issues with their costumer base as well.
I think part of the problem is that people set their standards way to high to start off with. It’s like buying a kit and expecting everything to assemble like Lego’s but in reality the parts go together more like an Erector Set. It’s automatically assumed that the more you spend the easier installation would be, since we’re now in this “Plug and Play” mentality. My best friend, John whose a system admin gets this all the time at work. Some soccer mom is sitting in the hair salon when another mom talks about how little Bobby whose 14 built the new family computer from buying parts online for half the cost of buying a new Dell, or another overpriced PC at Best Buy or what-not. So soccer mom gets home and thinks well if a 14 year can build a PC, then she can so she spend 500 bucks on parts from Newegg. Who knows where soccer mom’s kid is, not really relevant, but the parts come, randomly throws parts together, tries to power up so she can brag to the other soccer moms on AOL, but wait northing happened, the PC does nothing. Who knows, maybe she forgot to install the OS (assuming she has an OS!!!) or forgot the jumpers on the HDD. Maybe she didn’t set install video card in to a AGP slot, or the IDE. ATA jumpers off, anyone who has ever set up a PC can spend a week trouble shooting soccer mom’s PC and still want to bang their head in to a wall. Point is same goes for mechanics.
Sorry for the rant, kind of why I don't do tech advice much on the boards or phyically do installs for people anymore.

With that said Brad, my suggestion is that if you are still having problems drop Erich a line at sales@provoscooter.com and he'll set something up with you so you can call him. He's great with costumer support over the phone.
Note, I moved this thread to general issues from web since this topic has nothing to do with the operations of the website and is a general technical question pertaining to parts/sales/service.

I'm going to take everything apart again tonight and put it back together. Gonna run it with as many different roller weight set ups as i can, even though I dont think thats the issue.
The variator kit I purchased has some pretty rusted peices I cleaned them up as best I could but dropping $100 bucks for some rusted metal just adds fuel to the fire.
I have a couple of emails to Erich, some of which are about a week old, havent heard back. For instance, I ordered Sava whitewalls, he emails me telling me he doesnt have any and doesnt know when he can get more. I reply, Then credit my money back and I will wait. He still has my money and I havent heard back from him.
Rust / Lack of Communication / $$$ / Technical Problems - now you can see how this is starting to build up .

Exact reason I want to hire someone to soup up my scoot- I don't want the headaches.
I see you point Brad and I would be getting a little urk'ed myself. I have never dealt with Provo (yet..need a mechanic in MD!) but have heard good things about them so when it is time I will.

YAY !
With a little time I figured out that adding another washer (where the tiny one goes between the Variator Fan and the Variator) and it worked like a charm. Silly as that may sound, adding one little tiny washer made all the difference, so now, sorry for whining ! lol . . .

Um, that's why it's a PM, cause it's Private not Public :D
See Brad, I told you it would all work itself out. Like I say all the time 99% of problems are something easily overlooked.
