Hi, all, log time lurker, first time poster :)

I decided my scooter needed some preventative maintenance (mistake) so I took off the airbox, tranny cover (just the black plastic one) and tightened the exhaust bolts. I cleaned the filter with carb cleaner and reinstalled.

I (possibly stupidly) did a common mod for other bikes in the airbox and drilled a couple holes in it near the bottom where the foam peice is. On several of my friends dirt bikes this made a difference in power, and at least sounded cooler ;)

I figured because there are K&N type filters availible for the Zuma that this would be fine.

Now it starts perfectly, idles great forever, and the initial pullout of the driveway is ok, but as soon as I am going more than 5kph is just falls flat, the motor will go BWOOOOOHHHHH and the revs will just fall off instantly. It still seems fine if I juuuuuuust crack the throttle, but thats it, any more than a tiny bit and it is like I have the brakes on.

Please help I need this scoots to get to work!

by drilling the holes, you have created a lean condition. This lean condition not only creats the problems with the throttle you describe, but also hurts your motor. Soon enough, you will seize and have to re-build it.

If I were you, I would put some tape over those holes ASAP. You can keep the holes ONLY if you rejet the carb.

Hi, I made another post in "zuma tuning", seemed more appropriate, so I would like to merge the 2, or just ignore/delete this one.

But I fixed the holes, same issue. That plus I seriously doubt the extra holes caused the problem, the original inlet to the air box is already 4 times buigger than the carb inlet, so adding more holes can't really cause a lean condition IMHO.

But just for kicks I patched the holes, same issue.

Thanks for the idea though, this is annoying...

Dirt in the carb. Drilling holes in the stock zuma airbox kills the power. Mess with the air screw, down here 1 3/4 turns works goods.

Did you get the airbox tube clamped back on the carb correctly?

I had that same exact problem, but the only thing wrong with it was that I needed a new spark plug. Check that.
