Okay, not 100% on the speakers yet... but the stereo is a Panasonic CQ-DF401U CD am/fm stereo...

It's rated at

Built-In Amplifier Power 4 x 45 Watts Max
Built-In Amplifier RMS Power 4 x 23 Watts RMS

which means it's normal power it takes to run it is 23w... notice the 45 is almost double... that's cause it's rated on a 14v scale... I hate the lie of auto electronics...

anyway, I plan on some 4.5" speakers with a rubber outer and non-paper cone... and running the 2 off the kick board... as well as mounting the stereo on the kick board as well... all in view while sitting on the scooter... Hope no one gets the idea to walk off with the stereo~ but if they do... then lesson learned!

I'll do up a how to when I do the install... Just need to remember to mount an antena under the body panels...

Sorry about the subwoofer joke..i know this will Kill batteries....I'm eventually going with that "Computer speaker/Sub" Idea..And keep it simple with an IPOD/cd player..1/8 " Plug

here is a pic of the installed stereo... not where I wanted it... I'm gonna try to put it on the kick panel but I don't think there is enough room...

the wiring harness plug in through the drain hole in the bottom of the under seat storage... and I can put my full face helmet in there still...

so after a little more thinking and tearing the scooter apart... I decided to move the head unit and mount the speakers under the panels...

here are the final install pics... Not what I originally intended but will work... I really wanted the unit mounted on the kick board but there just wasn't enough room for a CD player deck... I could have gotten away with one of the decks that are only 1/2 the dept of a regular head unit but didn't want to go there....

anyway here are the pics...

one speaker under the gas tank where the oil tank used to be and one under the headlight panel...

the stereo is mounted on the bottom of the seat and is mounted with 2 screws in the mounting sleeve and a strap screwed in holding the back in place...

is there any kind of "wired" remote control for that headunit?

if not read on................................................ .......................................

my only concern is that you cannot adjust the volume without dissmountind the scooter. With the "loudness" of your race exhaust you will have to have the volume maxed out while riding, and then its too loud at a redlight or school zone...( do you have schoolzones in the tundra?)

Jered...I really didn't wan't to say anything..(Who am I anyway..) .Cause you spent time on this......BUT..you kinda made your scoot into a boom box..I know scoot stereo installs are difficult cause of the room..But you wan't some kind of "Imaging"..(Left..and Right)..And volume control.. as Lennox said....I sometimes wonder about Helmet Speakers.....I don't know..I still like the Idea of a sub under my arse...I'm gonna look into a 2 Battery wiring System. I still like the Idea of a Subwoofer Thumping under My Arse....but that is..IMO.....(A Live sound man and Recording engineer) ( please don't take any offense..This is what the Forum is for isn't it?) :D John

James B would be proud. Now we have a Zuma with a stereo to match the one on his Vino. :)

the plan was to mount it on the kick shield but there is no room with the speedo cable on one side, and the ignition on the other...

The problem is that it just wouldn't fit without interfering with those... I agree also that volume might be a pain, however, It's an easy place to reach... Rev the engine and turn key to pop the seat, then 2 seconds later and it's volume is changed...

The only thing that sucks is if it's not loud enough while going...

The other thing... I went as far as measuring the depth on the foot boards, under the battery, side panels... there just is no place to mount it on the outside of the scooter... I'm going to look into one of the stock style that are only have the depth of the normal 1/2 din radios...

See if I can get it to work that way but for now... this will have to work... It also might be a temp install we'll see...

I know you already have the stereo but I have seen a lot of helmets with the speakers built in that are for skiing/boarding.. they work great for that purpose I wonder about scooting. Anyone out there try those yet? You connect them to your ipod so power and reaching the volume would be easy.

They sell windscreens (yeah, right) with stereo mounts in them. They also sell mirrors (huge ones) with speakers built into them. Some tips, take them or leave them. Get a marine grade stereo, even foggy air will ruin the stereo after some time. Car stereos don't lie, auto's DO run at 14.7 volts. Personally, I like the iPOD or MP3 player idea. Its small, and hides well, uses way less power. Self powered speakers would help if you want to blast them. You also can't go far from your scooter without wondering who else likes your set-up (crooks) BUT....it is your build, so good luck

i always wanted to build a custom fitted sub underneath the seat, with a deck built near my feet. but i knew for sure that if i had subs, they would have been stolen the next day. using and mp3 player is good enough for me, and also sounds for efficent (sp?)

Lennox+IPOD=ISCOOTIN.

My Ipod is the farthest I will go, and it makes scootin SOOO much more enjoyable.

My question is how do you power the sucker? The coil on your scoot must put out more than mine. I dont think I could power anything more than already came with the bike!
