I live in Las Vegas and with the recent surge in gas prices I'm looking to keep the 15mpg truck parked in the garage. I have no problems driving a scooter to work on my daily commute(32 miles round trip). I work from 2am to 12pm so traffic isn't a concern. I need something that will keep me at a steady 45mph because that is the speed limits for my commute. Question is this; Are there 50cc scooters out there that can maintain 45mph and still get 100mpg or do I need to step up to a 125cc? What is the realistic mileage I will get out of a 125cc?

Newb here so please take it easy.

I am not the best person to answer your questions. I can only relate to my experiences. #1 forget the 100 mpg even with a 49cc scooter. It aint gonna happen. #2 There are very few stock 49cc scooters that will maintain 45 mph. They can be modified to do 45+ mph but the gas mileage will suffer.
The 125cc scooter would be much more suitable for your needs. But check your State Laws, it may require a Motorcycle license. As far as gas mileage with a 125cc, others will fill you in on that.

So right now I'm looking at the Zuma with mods and the Vino 125. Is 32 miles round trip on city streets at 45mph too much for these 2 scooters?

The Vino 125 is happiest going 45-50 mph.

I would definitely vote 125-150cc. Realistic mileage of 70-80mpg possible. And it will hold the speeds you need comfortably.

I'd recommend looking at other models in that cc range besides the Vino too.. such as Kymco Agility and Buddy125 they are also very nice scooters and have more power than the vino.
