definitly need that torque spring in there now.
when its idleing the belt gets tossed around quite a bit, so i guess there is room for the belt to sit higher on the clutch.
i cut off like 1mm of the posts, i did measure but im still hoping i got them even. they were a little worn so they must have been hitting something at one point.
my mechanic did an allright job rethreading the crank shaft this time.
im going to cruise it to work in a few to see if it accellerates a bit better, but i wont hold my breath.
(i still need to put that damn spring in.)

YOU CAN DO IT!
not to difficult to put the spring in... just remember that the spring is under pressure when you take the nut off the clutch...

lol. thx.
it had a bit more acceleration today, but i think it may have more to do with the 75+ degree weather than with me cutting some off each post on the variator.
because on the way home, it was like 50 and the accelleration kinda sucked, but still not as bad as before.
anyway... i still need to get the spring off but i cant remember what size the nut is so i gotta tear it apart and measure it yet again.
i think its 23mm but im not sure.

got to love "TUNING MACHINES"!
I love doing the work... but hate the down time!

seems like every thread i start or posts in turns into 3 + page's.
:D
anyway...
i dislike the technomoto variator.
its noisy and the back plate has too much play on the guides that the v bushings slide on.
and its causing extra wear on the finned pully for some reason... i figure i have some time before its useless, and since its allready worn there is no point in trying to salvage it.
so when the time comes to replace it, is there another variator available (besides the technomoto) that will work good with my vento zip r3i?
i will also need a new finned pully thing too, but cant seem to find one from mallosi. :(

got the numbers off the belts...
stock is:
788 17 28
kevlar that i got from provo:
780 16.5 30
did i get the wrong kevlar belt or something?
788 is the total length of the belt, if cut, 788 millimeters, 17 millimeters wide, 28 degree angle, the shorter length should be offset by the belt being narrower, it will ride lower in the pulley, the 2 degree belt angle difference should not make much of a difference, but it will put more force on the top layer of the belt than the lower, ribbed part of the belt. This could cause some wear , but the belt should soon wear down to the correct angle.

well, i like the way it performs right now for the most part, i had it up past 50 today.
take off isnt the best still but its no worse than a car.
just have to be more carefull pulling into traffic. lol
what im wondering is if theres a way to get a different spring, with the tension somewhere in the middle (between the stock one and the red one that came with the stage 2 kit.)
im in full agreement with everyone that says the stock one doesnt have enough tension.
but i realy dont like the replacement one either.
i went to a bunch of different stores and couldnt find a long enough strap wrench, out of stock at sears.
also couldnt find a 23mm socket, they dont even carry them at most stores.
they have just about every one EXCEPT 23mm
may not even matter, it may actualy be 24mm but i cant seem to find anyone that knows for sure.

you could try a compairable inches socket...
With that in mind...
The torque springs... Malossi sells them and you can get them from provo...
They have a +10%, +20%, +30% over stock... Email erich about the malossi springs... he can get them...
anyway.... Just email sales@provoscooter.com and ask for a price of them... I'd recommend ordering all 3 sizes so that you can get a selection to choose between... and I have no idea what the one from the technomoto kit is... however I'm guessing that it's on the higher end... 30% ish or somewhere in that range...
The one that I got with over range kit is less tention than the technomoto one...
I think that they are somewhere like $10 or so... a piece...

The Techno spring is week.... I ordered a 30%, and it is WAY stiffer than the one in the vari kit!

was my guess price right? about $10-15 per spring?

spring i got with my stage 2 kit, from here.
is red, and 110mm long
i could swear it came in a malossi package, but i could be completely wrong as my mechanic tossed all the stuff away.
i emailed erich to ask what it was exactly, but its pretty stiff and close to double the length of the stock spring. i cant even compress it completely with my hands, and when its installed the belt seems to get stuck and it takes too long to get to top speed.
im going with jered's guess of it being 30%+

sounds like it was a malossi one... being it was red... the technomoto ones are not painted or anything... and are plain metal color...
With that being said... it could be 20-30% try and get a 10% see if that works... then if you need to go up to 20%... that way you'll know for sure what works best...
I'll check my packaging and see if it says what stength the spring in my malossi kit was...

I have an "EXTRA" spring from a techno vario if you are interested........

thanks.
i may just buy malossi springs, so i know exactly what tension they are.
any idea what tension your technomoto one is?
if its like halfway between the stock one, and red one i have.
it would probably work.

the technomoto one I have is about 1.5 inches longer (uncompressed) than the malossi one in my o/r kit... as well I think it's stronger than the red spring I have...
however I'm not sure of the % on the technomoto one...
Lennox
01-06-2005, 05:17 PM
Jered,
thats weird, my red one is way stronger than the techno.....
take your springs into your bathroom to the bath scale, and see how much weight it takes to compress each one.......... I do not have a scale, but I will goto the grocery store and do the same......

erich said:
That is the strongest spring that Malossi sells and is listed as the
"Racing" spring.
he was talking about the red one he sent me.
so im probably looking at something inbetween the stock one, and the race one.

Whats the % of tension of the molassi white spring?

DO NOT INSTALL A +30% REAR TORQUE SPRING!!! The tecnomoto variator cannot handle the extra pressure! That spring was designed for a malossi transmission setup. I know, I blew 2 belts, my kick start assembly, nearly stripped my crankshaft, and left with a $300 repair bill!!! I've posted a thread about my experiences, you can look em up through the search option. Of corse this was on my vino, I dunno if it'll work on your scoot.

yea, i figured as much when i first installed that spring.
also why i figure the spring lennox is offering me, will work fine. (better than stock anyway, and its probably the right spring for my setup.)
