Hey all. Recentley finished putting on stage one and it hawls balls, or at least it did. It was running perfect for about the first 50 miles, but now it has no acceleration. When you take off full throttle it just barely takes off and never reaches a power boost. It just slowly climbs up to about 40. It was doing like 55-60. Any ideas what might be going on? I have not rejetted and have not done a plug read test yet, but I was just throwing this out there to see if anyone has had this problem.

Thanks all
Perry

I'm having the same problem Perry has, I just finished installing the clutch springs and new variator with the lightest weights (already had the pipe on), I'm 225 and have tons of hills around here so light should be best. First 5 minutes I was amazed, would gun it and it would shoot up to and well over 55. I came to a stop and went to take back off, gunned it and barely took off, never hits a power band and will not exceed 40 unless i go down hill, W T F . . . .

I have taken it apart 2 times since and everything looks like it should, the belt has 200 miles on it and is in new condition.

And this new variator kit sure does rattle when i'm sitting at an idle, whats up with that ?

Needless to say, I'm extremely disapointed with this $250 plus dollar purchase and am at a loss as to what could be wrong . .

Did you install that huge torque spring that came with the kit? If you did, did you also install a shim or two with the spring? Have you changed your wieghts, sometimes to need a mix of light and heavy wieghts. Is everythings as it should be (perfectly put back together, including that tiny lil washer)?

Now,once my vino is warmed up I lose A LOT of bottom end acceleration and torque... BUT I always hit a powerband. You just gotta make sure everythings tight (your variator should NOT rattle) and tuned.

I swear that my variator rattles like mad as well (even though it doesn't move when I push and pull on it... Not 100% but it's either that or the exhaust... I hope it's not the exhaust... Then again I hope it's not the variator... but those would be better than the piston...

Anyway... I'd guess your having issues with your rollers sticking in the open position or something? If you had power then now you don't it's got to be something that moves, not moving properly... It could also be the clutch spring... or maybe the little clutch springs... Are they both still in place?

My guess is that this is related to heat, because of the fact that it doesn't do this when the bike is cold, only after driving it for about 5 min, I would say that the poor little engine is working overtime, wich creates alot of heat wich in turn creates to much piston expansion wich in turn causes thermal break down and causes your piston to stick in the bore causing it to be slower than normal. Why don't you try a synthetic oil and see what happens.

All stage 1ers have this problem.

You guys should try searching the threads next time.

There is a simple reason for what is happening to your stage 1 scoot.
It is a free 10 minute fix.

Clue: It has to do with your mid range and uses a needle. Yes it is in your carb.

Good luck!
