Is the Zuma illegal in so-cal?
I was not sure if 50's fall within the emmisions laws.
My "Cali-whack" brother in law rode my zuma up here in Oregon over X-mas.
Now he wants one, but He lives in so-cal.
He was saying he sees a lot of scoots, but wasn't sure what kind they were.
I assume they might be 4 strokers?

Any of you got one in so-cal?

You can ride 50cc 4 strokers anywhere in california, BUT, you still need a full fledged motorcycle license to ride it legally.

pure and simple answer!

Me like those... It's a good idea to get a license anyway... as well as take a motorcycle safety course!

See my scootergarage for links to local motorcycle safety info...

o.k.-- got it.
But what about the 2 strokers? Like a zuma or vino, venice, etc...?

the 2 storke should be able to be purchased at a local california shop... have him call a yamaha dealer and ask...

they are more fluent on the laws there...

I was thinking that but didn't know so wanted to keep my mouth shut...

Can you have a 70cc kit on a 50cc body? Or do you have to have it inspected? Just wondering in case I get stuck being assigned to california?

they don't inspect motorcycles in Cali. It just has to meet the requirements to be sold NEW in California. After that, transfer of ownership does not require any inspection at all. If you move to California Jared, to get california plates and reg you would have to get the bike "varified" which means that a DMV employee or a private party with a vehicle varifier permit will inspect the bike to varify that the VIN agrees with the title you are presenting for the bike. But there's still no emissions test.

being in the military I can keep the state of residence you choose...

So I would remain an Alaskan resident...

Plates are cheap here... and I'd be able to keep my alaskan plates... That'd be funny, a scooter with AK plates cruising cali... LOL!

They would all think you rode all the way from alaska to cali on the scooter.

yeah... Kinda fully...

anyway, I hope to god I don't go there...

unfortunately it's possible... I don't want to live there... just not my thing... to hot and to crowded...

Thanks guys!
I spent a hellish 4 months in AK once...

2 girls that I worked with were from New York.
They rode a motorbike all the way from N.Y. up the alaskan highway and into whatever city the highway ends at (fairbanks?)
I figured they were lucky to be alive!
but we were all in our early 20's back then! No big deal right?

Don't hit that moose! / honk at the grizzly!

Iv'e seen a lot of wierd things in my life, but those 4 months were the wierdest! Those natives are freakin crazier than any metalhead I have ever hung out with in the lower 48!!
Alaska was truly metal!
