Quick question, do we have a "how to replace the 2 stroke oil from the reservoir tank: on a Vino. I know I do not supppose to mix semi-synthetic with fully synthetic in the tank, but I do not know a step by step how to get to the reservoir tank to empty it. Any help will be appreciate it, and by the way have a very Happy Holidays. :)

there are a couple ways you can do it...
1. run it empty (as close as you can without going dry)...
2. follow the tank removal HOWTO... get to where you unbolt and drain tank and then place the tank back into the scooter... don't complete the HOWTO... the HOWTO's are listed in the HOWTO section above...
pretty easy.. basically take the right side panel off and remove a couple of bolts... then pull tank out... and flip over...
Let me know if you have trouble...

You can mix the two with no problem.

I have a little less than half a pint of the Yamalube left & want to switch to synthetic. I'll get some Motul when I order my Japanese style lights in January.
Thanks for the instructions on removing the oil resevoir from the Vino.
On question--can you mix different types of synthetic oils?

I always followed the rule of not mixing %100 dino with %100 synthetic........ semi (I thought ) was ok to mix

This topic and been split and relocated to the proper forum in accordance to posting guidelines for product preview rules. ( had an FAQ posted in the top of this forum but it was lost when I reconfigured the conference earlier this week.

most synthetic oils even say not to mix in 2 stroke oils...
PERIOD... DO NOT MIX THEM... if you are running injection you'll probably have the oil gum up and not flow, causing piston failure!

Note that the article quoted above does not address automobile, 2-stroke oil. The article is referring to hydraulic and turbine lubricants which have a multitude of grades and types (like HO-32, HO-46, Skydrol, HF-0, HF-2, m-2950, and the list goes on).
I have seen this discussion on messageboards and usenet (as related to cars and motorcycles/scooters) for the last 12 years with no real conclusion. I have mixed oils before with no disaterous consequences. I dont recommend mixing them, but I also would not worry about the engine siezing up because of it. You dont need to purge every last drop of 2-stroke dino oil from the tank. Just wait until it is really low and then add the synthetic lube. If you dont want to wait for the oil to run low, then suck it out with a syringe. You can get one at Wal-Mart in the automotive department for mixing chain-saw 2-stroke oil. Attach a tube to the syringe and then suck out the oil. This is what I did on the Yesterday.

Okay, or one of my Yamaha dealer does not care about customer service or I am confused. I went to a Yamaha dealer in Woodbridge, VA to purchase 2 stroke synthetic oil, to replace the semi -synthetic I have in currently in the reservoir on my 2004 Vino. Well, I asked the technician which 2 stroke he recommends for my Vino, and he told me that the 2 or 3 kind of synthetic oils they sell are not recommended for a 2 stroke Vino. That kind of 2 stroke are oils not made for it. Could anyone tell me which kind of 2 stroke I am looking for? i.e. specificiations? i.e. for injector, pre mixed, etc. And where I can buy 2 stroke oil locally, I did check Wal-mart and they did not have any. I have another Yamaha dealer near to my house to check them out. I need to go there next Tuesday, they are closed on Monday. I will appreciate any help on this question. I do not want to use the wrong 2 stroke cycle synthetic oil on my Vino. Thanks again.

if you are still running your oil-injection system, then injector oil is what you want..... Yamalube makes a decent semi-syn injector oil.... it might be labled for Waverunners, but it will work fine on your Vino.
if you ditched your injector, then ANY "pre-mix" oil will work.
Your Yami dealer should have been more helpful, and advised you what oil. I am SURE they have an oil that would work well on your setup
Keep in mind that PROVOScooter.COM sells oil..... BUY OIL FROM PROVO HERE (http://www.provoscooter.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=163)

the stuff I get (check my profile by clicking on my name), is about $13.95 a quart... expensive stuff but it's one of the best kinds of pure synthetic 2 stroke oils... can use it premix or injector's...
Just make sure that the oil says it's acceptable for INJECTORS... and 2 stroke and youre golden...

they tell you to use the cheap stuff because I know my dealer doesn't have a full synthetic 2 stroke oil... they have a blend and recommened that instead... But I want full synthetic... I ended up getting it at a kawasaki dealer...

Okay I bought from the Yamaha dealer in Route 1, Northern VA. 2-stroke oil, synthetic, Bel-Ray Si-7 brand name. ($8.95) per liter The back label says" recommended for injector/autolube systems and premix ratio up to 50:1".. Is this oil the correct one for my 2004 Vino? I do not want to empty my semi-syntethic reservoir and find out later that I used the wrong 2 stroke oil. Thank you for the information.

That's what you need... injector oil... most can be used as both or only premix... don't know of any injector only oils...
but you got the correct stuff...

I have just been using the synthetic 2 stroke oil from my local auto parts store. Is this a problem? I didn't know there was a different oil for injectors and for mixing. I guess I'll look a bit closer at the bottle when I buy a new one.
On the previous question on this posting (regarding draining the oil): I read about the wonders of synthetic oil on this site (but not the caution not to mix with dino oil) and added synthetic oil to the tank when it had about a quarter left. It didn't seem to cause any problem for me, and my smoking days are long gone. (which is good, cause this thing smoked like a 50's game show host ever since I bought it)

more than likely the 1/4 tank of dino oil got used okay and didn't get gummed up... are you using the same amount of oil as before?
Also, even if it's a pre-mix only... it'll still run through it but probably not enough... so you still have some lube but if it's not for injectors.. replace it soon...
Bottom line, full synthetic for injection is best...Stock or modded
Semi synthetic is next but not much better then
dino oil...
also if you are premixing then it doesn't matter if it's injection oil as long as it says you can premix it...
phew...
