Hello, you read the title. Get to work. ;) I am looking for a scooter to drive to work. I can only afford $1400 at the maximum.

I do not mind Chinese, as long as it is a well known brand, and it can be made quality with not too much hasstle (aftermarket parts to make better). I need to be able to ride it to the firestation when I need to get and go fast. 40MPH. is fast enough on the roads I have to drive. I can do mechanical work, but I need help finding a good brand, and I find that with my budget, it will more than likely be Chinese, but as long as it is sleek, and a VERY WELL KNOWN quality brand within the budget. Thanks!

I cannot edit, so I need to say I can drive 60, as long as it will go over 30 MPH. Thanks Guys.

Hey Chuberry47,

there is an 1986 Honda Elite 250 for sale for $1100.00 at the Pittsburgh airport area. It's on craigslistdotcom... dated 11/28. I would imagine Honda would be quite servicable in your area and a 250 will really go. Somebody else might reply with better ideas but the ad sounds like he kept it serviced. Good hunting.

$1400 should put you into a Chinese 150cc, but not sure it will be sufficient if you want to run 60 mph. The real problem is finding a "quality" Chinese scooter if such a thing exists. Plus you will probably have to buy off the internet which is a buyer beware situation. As Vino A Go Go indicated, you would be far better off buying a good used name brand scooter and forget the Chinese connection. Also do you have a motorcycle license?

They could care less in this town, plus, I work for the city, so I probably won't get in trouble. The cops are too busy fighting Drugs which is really sad, and when they do have the chance to get rid of things, they fdon't. Go figure. There are a few people out here with 150CC. Bikes, and the have no license or registration.

If all you need to go is 30 mph, look for a used Zuma or 2 stroke Vino, Kymco Super 9 or Kymco People... that used Elite sounds great.

Sure isn't that way here. We had 3 people this past Summer, in the small town where I lived at the time, get tickets for no Motorcycle license. Then they were required to take a Motorcycle safety course.

Just as a side note on the new Chinese scooters off the internet. I've read that a lot of folks have trouble titling them with the documentation provided.
