I am new to this forum. I have a 2000 zuma that I bought used. The problem I am having is you have to rev it sorta high before the clutch ingages and it takes off. It is rather a fast slam and go!!..........I would think you should be able to just increase the gas a small amount and it take off easily. What do you think it may be?????........belt?, Clutch???.......thank you, ED

It was probably tuned this way for better take off acceleration. Most people put in lighter clutch roller weights to make the clutch engage at a higher rpm, where the engine hits its powerband. You could put in heavier rollers so it engages at a lower rpm and takes off more easily but the acceleration will be slower. Belt may be worn, you could try a new belt first and see and if it is not the problem you would have a spare belt which is good to have anyway. Hope this helps.

I am sorry I gave you the wrong info. The roller weights go in the front variator, which they probably tuned with lighter rollers. As you said it is probably the clutch, has stiffer springs causing engagement at higher rpm.You probably need lighter rollers and weaker clutch springs.

The previous owner modified the clutch with heavier springs so that it would engage later. This gives you a stronger launch. As long as you feel that it is drivable you should just leave it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your bike. It is only doing what the previous owner designed it to do.

This is a common modification as 50cc engines are weak on the low end. The only way to increase your launch is to increase the engagement rpm(assuming the rest of your trany is tuned).

Thanks guys (gals?)......never know these days. I guess I will just leave it for now then.......it really gets going quick because of the higher rpm it takes for it to take off, but I am starting to get used to it..........otherwise it runs fine.
