How do you Vino pilots get your fastest launches? Is it possible to bring the revs up with the brakes holding the bike still and then release to the brakes to get a better launch?

I've used this technique with auto-trans cars to get the torque converter to approach stall speed. This gives a better launch than the conventional method.

Well, I bought a surplus Navy fighter catapult used on the USS Intrepid that I mounted under the driveway to propel my Vino from 0-60 in .18 seconds, sadly my neighbors complained about the loud whooshing noise. Then I decided to derestrict the Vino. I recall YMC claiming the 0-60 in the Vino stock is somerthing like 0-60 in three minutes, or was that three days :)

I'm thinking of getting a Vino, and at least, derestricting it. I don't want to get run over by following car drivers when I pull away from stop signs and lights. FYI, I had a 400cc motorcycle years ago in college and currently drive a sports car that goes 0-60 mph in 5.9 sec. So, I'm used to being able to hold my own when the light turns green. With the Vino, I just want to keep up, I'm not looking to street race or anything.

Also, I'm pondering a Stage One for the Vino but am concerned about making the thing louder. I don't do loud.

Stock derestriction offers plenty of power to keep from being run over. Stage one gives you a little bit more of an advantage and is worth the money. My '04 vino classic with the next r pipe isn't that much louder than the stock pipe, just sounds a little different.

Welcome to the forums, Basenji Guy. I don't blame you. I had a 90 Mustang GT set up for SCCA, though I only ever did quarter mile on it running 12.9 and I use to ride a CBF1000F Hurricane, so I know all to well about out of the gate action. Stock is enoguh to kill ya if you're use to take off. Best thing is to derestrict then stage out to at least a I.

In my opinion, 50cc scooters aren't known for their quickness, I think it's the 5-12 horsepower that says it all. Every time I pull out in traffic, I make sure I have plenty of room, and 0-20mph goes by fairly quick, but it's the 20-40mph that will leave you sweating with your eye's glued to the grill in your rear view mirror.

What kinda car you drive Besinji? I would like to tell you that stage one isn't that big a difference in the noise department. A lil louder, but not by much (maybe I'm just used to it :p ). But as for take off, it'll actually be slower than stock. But After you hit 10mph it's faster, and after 30mph it shoots to 50mph! Well, that's the way mine is at least. Hope that helps.

Wow, I just tested a Stella today. Man, that is a fabulous scooter. I'm gonna have to think hard about how to come up with some more dough for a Stella. It definitely has some pop off the line!

I really like the Vino for its great looks, simplicity, and the fact that I've got two Yamaha dealers within ten miles. Oh yeah, and it's way under $2k. With a Stage One.

I really like the Stella cuz it's so old school, all metal, and that 150cc mill kicks *ss. Oh yeah, and it's gonna cost at least $2.5k new.

Ugh. Gotta print up some more money.

Stella for $2500? where? Most of the time they are $3000 minimum...

I've seen a few going for that around here. The dealer gets them then can't sell them. Hell, I made 500 bucks from selling my Baja just cause the market here was strong for the metals. but a year ago forget they couldn't give them metal bodied scooters out. Then again that was how I got my Bajaj! Had it two months before selling it for a jet ski. That and the fact that Elise saw two scooters and kept thinking one was hers. Yeah right...
