I seized one of my scoots last night. It is a Vino with an Airsal T6 kit. I have ordred a new piston as it has a flat spot on the exhaust side. The cylinder seems ok, but it has aluminum on it just above the exhaust port (from the piston) It isn't much, like a 1/2 inch pencil line. What's the best way to remove it?

You can try and hone it out lightly. sometimes if you peel an edge, it will flake off. It depends if it cut throught the nikisil coating. the coating it self is very hard, and the hone should do nothing to it. Just my guess's...

I don't think it cut into the nikasil. If it did it would be a scratch about 1/4" long. Ps. It was pulling almost 60 when it seized. (Forgot to premix the gas)

I tried a hone once and it took the Nikasil right off, Personally i thing some 400g Wet and Dry Sand Paper is your best option. Be sure to do it in a bucket of water.

I would hesitate to use a hone or sandpaper. Best way I have heard of on the nikasil has been to use muriatic acid.

Yea, I just spoke with someone else who suggested that. I could buy it from a paint shop right?

How do you use it?

A Pool shop should have it or a hardware store. Wear good gloves as its extremely corrosive and glasses. Remember the saying always add acid so should you want to mix it always put the diluting agent (ie water) in the bucket first then add the acid. Have fun :) but be careful. Apply with a paint brush.

Do you wash it with water after. How long will it take to get the ali off?

Do you wash it with water after. How long will it take to get the ali off? Yes rinse with water afterwards, have no idea as to how long as i normally use it for cleaning boat toilets however i would say not very long.

Just paint it on the ali and wait a minute or two then rinse it off?

Just paint it on the ali and wait a minute or two then rinse it off? i would apply with a brush and keep agitating it and applying more until you can see its removed.

i have been honing Malossi & Polini aluminum cylinders with 280 grit sandpaper & i have yet to take off any nikasil, maybe the T6 nikasil is of poorer quality that's why it came off when you honed it or you have used a honing stone directly on the nikasil which is a bad idea.

The one i honed was a polini but i used a cylinder hone and not sandpaper.

that is very bad indeed, wrap the sandpaper over the cylinder honing stones, that's what we do to finish the cylinders we hone.
