Hello, I am new to this forum. I bought a used Vino 2 stroke with 6,800 miles. It ran great until now. I read about the exhaust restriction removal so I removed the restricter form my Vino exhaust. Now the scooter just bogs down and will not pull me along. It starts and idles fine. Any ideas of what has happened? Any suggestions for a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you've got the pipe sealed to the cylinder?

Yes, I have the pipe back in place with the copper gasket. I have the plastics off of the bike because I am repainting them. The previous owner had some road rash. All the lights and signals are disconnected would that make any difference?

Do you have the airbox off?

Yes, I have the air box off just to try it out. Not planning on running it this way. Is this the problem?

Yes! You're running very lean. Do not ride it until you get the air box back on. Engine will run hot.

Thanks, I'll get the box back on tomorrow. I love this scooter. I have never owned one and it is a blast to ride, not to mention gets great gas mileage compared to my truck.
Thanks again for the help.

no airbox = bad for engine. you'll seize it instantly you hit higher rrpms.

Great news. I reinstalled the air box with the proper snorkel breather intake and my Vino has come back to life. The only mod I did was the restriction removal on the exhaust. Wow what a diiference! This thing flys! Now to try the the variator deregulation --- or should I ? Any advice.
Thanks again for all the help, you all.

just buy a quality vario kit like Malossi or Polini & be done with it.

I didn't see much difference after I did it. The stock parts work fine for day to day riding.

By the excitement in "This thing flies!", I'm guessing you are
not going to feel like stopping at the vario deregulation. ;wink)

I found that a slightly longer transmission belt is good for a couple
more mph. It's from a Jog 90, and can be found on the auction site
for under $20 shipped. Won't work with the stock variator though,
so after you deregulate the stock one, you can shop for a better
unit as suggested.

Hey Step,

does the belt effect the takeoff speeds(make slower) or does the rear torque spring take up the extra slack?

I assume the stage 1 prov vari will be fine?

Thanks.
