View Full Version : Idle Bogging

I have an 05 stock Zuma, today right after warming it up I came to the first stop sign and tried accelerating and the motor had nothing there, it would just bog out. I tried again and just wanted to bog still. Finally after a couple times trying to get it to go, giving it a decent amount of throttle I finally got it to accelerate. Then within a few hundred feet I got to a stoplight and the idling became very, very low then cut out. I was able to walk it away from the intersection and start it up again pretty quickly then seemed to run alright. At first I thought maybe it was just some water in the gas since its been relatively cold here in MN (in the teens*F), but after adding some IsoHEET later tonight I still had similiar problems where if I didn't give it much throttle after a stop it'd bog down slightly. Anyways, I figured its probably just jetting now b/c of the temp, anyone have any advice on what to do? also reading other topics it seems theres confusion with the air screw as in IN=Richer/OUT=Leaner or vice versa so if anyone has any ideas on this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I also forgot to add - right when I start it up on the stand, especially in the colder weather the last few days, the motor will wind up quite a bit and idle real high with with rear wheel spinning quite fast.

Man, that is totally weird. Mine is doing the exact same thing.

I fooled around with the idle screw, the airflow screw and then the throttle tension, now i totally %$#@^'ed it up . I am bringing it into the dealer to reset everything.

I've actually been really lazy to getting around to it, especially since we've been getting alotta snow lately and the roads are covered. I have it all torn apart, and I'm gonna try turning the air screw in a bit, probably would be a good idea to record the original settings before messing around too much. I'll let you know if I figure it out

If you know how to make it worse, then you might know how to make it
better.

hahh hahaah

Well, that's what I figured, but then it's not that simple.

Brought it in today to the dealer and they reset everything and also did the 8000km maintenance on it.

Picking it up today with a $130 lighter wallet afterwards. ,,poopin,,

You're lucky you only have a scooter, lol..... If i took my bike to a dealer for a full service it'd be about $800 ***potty m

extremely cold weather will wreck havoc on your idle/pilot circuit. Here in Northern FL, I have went from a 42 -> 45 -> 48 -> 50 pilot to accomodate to increasingly colder weather over the last 3 months. I could only imagine what a temperature in the teens would do to a stock scoot.

sure would be nice if Yamaha had a jetting chart for these scoots, anyone have any info (or at least experience) on what type of pilots/mains to run around sea level w/temps?

Not sure how you meant that but it is quite deep, think about it. Thats a quote for the books, thanks.

Kinda like, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I adjusted the air screw and that seemed to help, I tried moving it in and out ~1 turn, but still seemed to do it a bit, I basically ended up turning it in all the way and backing it out 2 turns, seemed to help -> no more bog

Same symtoms on my stock 05 here in Oklahoma....heated garage (at least 58F all the time) and on a 70F day I cranked it up and let it idle for a long time....give it the slightest throttle and bog bog bog die.
Feedback please.
