This is the Airsal aluminum race cylinder. This is the ultimate marriage of price and performance. The piston is of single ring design, to eliminate friction and drag. The properties of aluminum allow for faster cooling and longer cylinder life over cast iron.

It is cast from an aircraft quailty T-6 aluminum, then the cylinder is coated with a Nikasil lining. Nikasil coating is a nickel and silicon carbide matrix and is very hard, but it is comparatively ductile. Dispersed through the nickel are particles of silicon carbide less than 4 microns in size. Beside providing a very long wearing surface for the piston and rings, the silicon carbide particles also contribute to longer engine life by ensuring good cylinder lubrication.

It will produce increased torque when installed with the stock pipe (alt. Stage 1).

When installed with a Tecnigas pipe, Arreche carb and Tecnomoto variator (Stage 2) (http://www.provoscooter.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=84) it has a 50-55mph top speed and break-neck acceleration. If installed with an expansion chamber pipe, you must upgrade the carb to ensure reliability.

Review:

With a simple 13mm (might have been a 12mm) socket, phillips screw driver (large to remove the shroud), and needle nose pliers... This kit added great off the line power and keeps the power there till top speed...

Great improvement over stock...

Provo also offers a cast set up if you arn't into the aluminum set up...

Lennox... have you given up on your 105cc superstroker?

Jered... I'm curious... why is it the carb must be upgraded with the 70cc kit for reliability? I think I read somewhere that the engine can sieze if the stock carb is used.

Erika,

No, I still have it....(stroker) I just dont trust it for riding around ALL day. I think I might put it in the Yukus that I am going to build. (Yamaha Rukus)

The stock 14mm carb just cannot give a 70cc enough gas/oil......

Hiya Lennox :)

Yukus?!!! LOL That's cute! You'll have to show us piccys when you get it done!

I guess I can see how lack of lubrication can be a problem with premix, but would it be a problem if the oil injection is still used? I know... you're supposed to disable the oil injection and go straight premix with the 70cc kit, but I've also heard lots of people keep the injection and have no problems. Some people suggest using both... injection, plus a smaller amount of oil in the gas.

Anyway, if I go for the 70cc kit I'll get the bigger carb, just to be safe. I'm sure it's faster as well.

Thanks!

Avia,
Another thing to keep in mind with these two-strokes. Fuel helps cool the motor! With a small carb, and not enough fuel, that baby piston will heat up and seize......

That makes sense, Len. I forgot about the cooling part.

btw... if you looked up at about 5 minutes before noon today and say a dark blue 737 southbound just off the shore in FLL at 10,000' today... that was moi! ;)

yeah... the smallest I'd even think about running is a 17.5mm however that is on the small side for me...

19mm is the better for a mild tune... as you can use the stock intake...

21mm even better... 24mm is on the larger size I'd use... and you need a cylinder that can handle it... a stock airsal and mild pipe would probably be bogged down easy with a 24mm and intake...

Hey, I saw the jet... oh wait.. not anchorage oops... must have been a different one! LOL!
