When would it be necessary to upgrade the crankshaft? Can the stock crank handle all the aftermarket parts, or will it be necassary to upgrade?

Thanks.

The stock cranks are ok but if you go all-out with your parts probably wouldnt be a bad idea. The performance cranks are stronger ,and you can get them with a 12mm end which is stronger instead of the stock 10mm end, but you also have to get a cylinder with a 12mm end. Some cylinders like the MHR you have to switch the crank, the only downside of this part is the install kinda difficult takes a total engine teardown.

the malossi MHR requires a 12mm crank... which is almost $300... and the MHR is almost $300... so to change to an MHR cylinder it's gonna cost almost $600!

With that being said, I choose to go with the MHR replica and teh over range... hoping I can get more out of those parts than the cylinder and crank alone!

The other benifit of the upgraded crank is they are better and more accurately ballanced!

The stock crank is okay but the performance ones is almost perfect ballance...

IMO I will go with the crank one day but probably not till the next cylinder and then I'll go with the MHR... not the replica...

wow those prices are high. jered where are you buying your parts from. i got my mhr (10mm pin) for $215. i am using the stock crank but when i upgrade i will get the 12mm pin crank for another $200 at the most.

I'm paying around $219 for my MHR replica... the list price is $259...

in addition... prices for these vary depending on the euro...

So one time you might get on for less than the next time!

It happens when ordering overseas stuff...

The prices I quoted were from taft... and using a euro - us$ conversion...

219 for a replica, how much is the mhr? i still think your airsal with race ports would give your more power than a replica would. doesnt that airsal have bridge port exhaust?

it's got a split exhaust... so if that's what your refering to? It's got 2 cat eye looking holes that feed into the round part where the exhaust connects...

The MHR was $289 I think...

I'd have to review my emails but I'm at work and can't now...

With that being said...

I thought I'd try the MHR rep first and see how it and the over range works for me...

As long as I can cruise at 65mph... I'll be happy...

jered whats the diff between the mhr and the mhr replica that you are getting if the kit you ordered has a bridge port exhaust. i can only see that you said that the kit comes with a double ring piston. whats the bore size on that kit also.

jered model of zuma do you look under when looking for the bug eye zumas. i clicked on the 2004 bw and found this kit 31 8501, it says that its a replica but from the pix its for the older zumas. i then looked up the jog section and found 31 8437, thats a replica but i still cannot find a replica with a bridge port exhaust.

I was talking about the airsal... not the mhr rep... I don't know much about it yet... other than it SHOULD BE better than the airsal...

We'll see when it gets installed!

I'd hate to have a $100 more cylinder that doesn't work as well as the cheaper $139 cylinder does... but thats the game with tuning... Trial and error!

I'm just begging for spring to hit early so I can ride with the over range installed sooner!

wow you have a long time to wait. out here we ride everyday all day. sometimes we get stuck in the rain but thats o.k. i dont really think that you will notice any diff with that over range tranny. when i put mines in, the only thing i noticed was that i had to go lighter on my wieghts cuzz it make the bike want to rev more. i went from 33grams to 24.5grams. now after riding the bike with the 24grams, i notice i can go a lil bit lighter to help the bottom and mid out.
