Here in my town in Virginia you have to carry your id while you ride your scoot too many under 16 kids riding around town being crazy that started this law. Even some on zuma's and 80cc rivas ive heard of 1 or 2 getting big fines, and their scooters impounded for not having a motorcycle license.

ummm....

well normally you are required to have a license on your person when operating a motor vehicle...

The same should happen when driving a car without a license!

anyway...

I live up here in alaska and have my license and other ID are on me at all times! unless I'm sleeping!

Most states by law require citizens to carry state issued IDs regardless if you drive or not. Failure to produce ID to an office of the law upon request can be warrant for detainment or even arrest.

Here in Colorado, you have to carry a drivers license when operating any motor vehicle. You don't need a motorcycle license for a 50 cc scoot, but you do need a driver license.
I do it for protection as well. God forbid that I werre ever in a serious accident--but I'd always want to be id'd

iI believe you should always have some kind of identification in your possesion. If something happens to you, EMS knows who to contact to. As a police officer in Fairfax I do not work in uniform anymore, but let me tell you something, patrol officers are gettinng more training about mopeds, scooters, and their laws. I ride my scooter around my area (approximately 8 to 10 miles around), and not because I am a cop and the officers knows me, that is not the case, I wear my helmet and clothing and I never got stop by a cop yet. If you follow the law it does not matter the cops would not bother you, but if you break the law and your scooter is running mrore than what the law states, i.e. over 30mph, etc, you will be fine. Normally on a traffic stop, a few officers will assist the police officer who stop you and you will get scared and as soon as the cop smells that you are lying , you will get fried by the judicial system. Trust me, it happens all the time. Keep it legal and you will do not have to worry about anything. B the way I am in the northern Virginia area, (Kingstowne) where are you located?

Hey All ..I Live in Jacksonville florida...And the Cops don't seem to Like Scooters..All the scooter owners I talk to say the cops think all scooters are too slow to be on Roads ( we have a lot of vintage Vespas) They have no Clue about modded scooters..Huh? over 50 MPH? There is a lot of ignorance out there..Here in Skynyrd ville they leave the Motorcycles alone and harrass the scooters..My Friend recently got a ticket for supposedly driving with his high beams on..he even demonstrated to the cop the difference between his highs and his lows..but got the hefty fine anyway.. I am restoring a Derbi Atlantis..But This has me wanting to avoid the Fascists anyway..( using side streets)..Anyway I thought You all should know about this Predudice..............John Stitz Yea ..I know..( Hicksville) But we supposedly have the largest geographical city in the USA..

I'm an ex-cop and I understand why cops don't like them on the streets, I'm also the head of our local scooter club, the FEZ, and the problem stems from the fact that 2/3rds of those out on the roads have no more sense riding a scooter than they do driving. Many state require only a driver;'s license leaving the majority of these riders without the experience and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle on a public road putting not only their safety at risk but also the safety of the public at large. We lost two under the age of 21 this year in the club to an at-fault accident brought forth by a lack of any form of formal training. Fortunately the pocket bike trend has pulled most of these rifer trendies off the streets. This is not the reality of the demographic, if 80% of a certain demographic is causing an issue law enforcement is going to concentrate 80% of it's efforts on that problem. Right now it's the pocket bikes that are the issue, two years ago it was the go-karts, and before that dirt bikes. Simply put a few bad apples will ruin it for all.

King Vino..You are right about the bad apples..There is always a certain percentage of a group, that have to push everything to the Extreme...and Ruin it for everyone..I shouldn't expect the entire Jacksonville Sherrif/Police force to be educated about scooters...They have their hands full with the Crotch Rockets as it is.. As We have a lot of Beaches here...I sometimes wonder if the whole Scooter Rental business..is being careful about whom they rent to? ..I have already seen Wrecks at a couple of these shops that I stop in..They said they hit parked cars..Hmmmm... . Oh...all you need for under 50cc here is a drivers License.. . John in Jax
