ok so as some of you may know I have had constant problems with my 70cc zip and now it sits in the alley out of order. I am looking for a scoot to get in the meantime while I fix my zip so I can get to and from school and whatnot.
I also am really into the idea of a touring sort of scoot for taking semi-long trips(and being legal on highways).
My search has led me to looking for 150cc scoots and I cam across a listing on craigslist for a 2004 phantom for 800 bucks with 300 miles on it. Is this a good deal and is it worth it? The guy has a matching trunk and a windshield on it currently.
I am going to look at it tomorrow and if it checks out I am going to pick it up I think. What do you guys think?

Sounds like a bargain... check it over thoroughly, and then Gopher it!

Definitely check it over, make sure its all stock too.
I've just worked on one about a month ago, and the gy6 setup looks pretty good. It was a also fairly easy to work on, lots of space in carb area. The guy had it sitting for a few years and I got it running.
It's a good scoot and for those miles and added accessories, its a very good deal. Just make sure there is no damage and he has clear title and all.

ok guys so now i started looking at newer scoots. basically I want 55-65mph with minimal mods and Im trying to not spend that much money. What are some decent brands when it comes to 150cc?

i would recommend: genuine buddy 125cc, quicker than a phantom by far and small like zip but roomy $2600 retail look for one used for cheaper, very solid scooter, 55-65mph easy.
kymco agility 125cc $2000 new 2yr warranty, about same speeds and dependable.
We sell both of these at our shop and having test ridden both and the phantom, the agility and buddy are higher quality scooters and much faster, but you pay to play.

I guess I should note that I am looking for one that would be freeway legal as well. I do like the buddy very much so though.

buddy or agility would be freeway legal, atleast in TX and faster than 150cc phantom. however i would still try to stay on frontage and back roads for the most part.

I believe it needs to be 150cc in IL or WI to be on the freeway. I could be wrong though.

They're hard got get parts for, but apparently fast scoots. And better looking than honda helix's personally.
