After finally buying a gps lastnight, I was able to see what speed my triton has REALLY been moving at. ::handleba
Here's the results:
On the way to campus, hit a max of 61.3mph after a good hill but did not top the speedo, it was about halfway between 50mph and "vento" mark.
Then on the way leaving I had a good run down a constant hill, and checked it at a light: 64.3mph! Speedo indicated right past the "vento" mark almost touching "usa". I felt pretty satisfied with that, but then got one more chance.. :race:
After a stoplight down the frontage road I took off and had great acceleration all the way past 50mph, slight downhill mostly flat. But this time I had a pickup truck in front of me moving rapidly, and I drafted right behind him! Boy did that help things, I MAXXED my stock speedo!! The needle was literally touching the corner of the display...
And the final magic number?

so you were drafting a car? Who cares then. The show myth busters have shown that drag goes to also zero depending how close you draft. your real top speed is barely over 60 mph as thats all you can do on a flat road with no draft.
i can draft cars at over 60 mph on my bicycle.

In that case best was 64.3mph since that was with no cars in front of me, however I won't let your comment ruin my good spirits.
70mph woot!!! ..dance..

LOL. we cannot believe a word you say when all the speeds you listed were on/after downhills or behind cars.
Also, FWIW, that Lucas octane booster is a bunch of poo. Theres no substance that has high enough octane rating to take 25 gallons of gas 3 octane with only 15 ounces. That would be an octane rating of 727. Xylene and toulene are only around 120. Methanol is about 140.

We? are you really speaking for everybody?
These are speeds I have hit personally, and specific circumstances aside, thats all that matters to me. You can bad mouth me all you want, but I'm not trying to list flat out speeds under perfect conditions, these are max speeds irregardless of terrain. Please take note.
As far as the Lucas octane booster, I really don't care. My mechanic who knows his stuff recommended it, saying its the only one he's seen benefits from.

It is still cool to know how fast you have had your scoot up to. Downhill or not, it is still neat.

i'm just sayin, Burnt has been braggin about a 70 mph scoot on stock carb for months. anyone with the search button will be let down. Your mechanic can say what he wants. Chemistry and Physics are a b1tch.

well clearly 70mph on the flats it is not, but have you seen the pic of the speedo? I was basically gauging it off the 50mph and the end of the speedo whenever I would ride, and I would get it pretty close to topping it out under normal conditions which is why it felt this fast.
Thats the whole reason I got the gps, to see how accurate this speedo is, and if I was really going the speeds I claimed. I think I come pretty close.

It would be interesting to see what the GPS reads at a speed that is listed on your speedo. Try going 50MPH exactly on your speedo and post what your GPS reads. Finding a mark that is past the maximum speed listed on your speedo and relating that to a GPS figure is not going to show you how accurate your speedo is.
FYI -
I can drive my goped at 125 MPH (honestly).
(special conditions must apply)
- a skydiving equipped airplane with a rear hatch
- a good quality parachute
I realize my above relation sounds kind of silly but my GPS watch will show 125 MPH.
Maybe try another GPS run on a flat with minimal wind and post the results. It might be a more accurate figure for the rest of us to compare to.
