I was thinking we should start a thread with pics of the cylinder, and pistons that some of us members have fryed. I know i have a nice piston for a example.

Actually Elliot you are right! This is an old picture though. This is after only 25 miles when I first put the Airsal 70cc on.... I was still running the oil pump at that time..... EVERYBODY with a bigger carb/cylinder SHOULD remove their oil pump, and PRE_MIX!!!! ;)

i had a circlip failure myself the circlip was installed correct but it flew out of its groove after about 2500miles. It destroyed my old engine i had to do a crank rebuild all new bearings ,seals everything.

hmmm... guess I should melt my piston so I can post some pics! LOL
Actually, it would seem meltdowns are rare with stage ones... but with the revs I've been getting I do wonder sometimes.
Which got me to wondering... does the stock oil pump have any problem keeping up with revs over 10k? Perhaps well over... as in 11k or 12k rpm?
Inquiring minds want to know! ;)

this is just my opinion, but, I do not trust oil pumps at any RPM! ;no

Here is the old 50cc piston..pieces of metal got all over...this is what happens when a well meaning SOB trys to kick start a scooter full of salt water..(NOT ME!!)..the piston was "Tack" welded inside of the Cylinder..Yes that is a Chunk missing from the skirt

I recently fryed my old Airsal cylinder because a circlip came out and tore up the cylinder and piston. Here are some pics of the damage results. I know that some people have fryed pistons because of no lube but I had plenty. It took a hammer and about 2 hours of beating on it to get it free.

I still cant figure out why ur clip came out...i mean you had everything tuned perfectly....u had the rite jet...right amount of oil...must be the kit...shayans kit is starting to be wierd..first it starts...then u hit the gas and it like dies out...is their some kind of like warranty on these arisal kits or somthing???

if youy install those clips more than 1 time, they can become weak and fall out... think about it... these things spin at 10K RPM's or so... pretty easy for a weak piece to fail...

LOL.....thats funny :jesta:
There is never a warranty for "off-road" or "racing parts" ;no

actually that's not true...
My polini Corsa/R comes with a 1 year warrenty... as long as it's caused by malfunctioning parts... IE: clips coming out...
However I'd probably not get anywhere with it as you'd have to prove that they were the cause and that they were installed correctly in the first place...

I know that I used the brand new clips that came with the kit. I also never put them in and then reinstalled them. I really just don't get it, I mean I have never had any trouble with Airsal on my old moped. The moped is running at 9500 RPMs and it has 3000 miles on it, and it still runs like the kit is brand new.

This is why I started that thread so long ago...about having REAL circlips...he is about the 6th person ive heard of this happening to........I read somewhere that both clip openings should face up...is this correct?

Could it have been the clips failing...?? then the bearing..??
Lennox

nope, no chance. Both clips were in place upon "teardown"

question like that : does the airsal is good or bad because alot of problem in this tread are with airsal 70cc...?? i maybe by one this winter or next summer so .. it good to know if it good or bad
XPS1210

the airsal is perfectly fine as long as it's ran right... doesn't matter what cylinder you run, if it's lean then you'll burn up any cylinder
