View Full Version : Bought a Jog engine... what else is needed?

I bought a 94 Jog engine for a project I'm working on and the motor is complete, just missing the external electronics, carb, and airbox. I already have a Jog CDI for it. What other electronics are needed to run this motor? I have spare Razz electronics- will Razz electronics run the motor? (ie. coil, wiring, etc)?
Thanks

It's very very vague, but I would think the easiest way to proceed
would be to find a used wiring harness, a regulator and cdi all from
a Jog motor. Just for ease of connections, so you don't have to
reverse engineer, and butt splice too many wires.

I don't think the razz electronics will work "properly".. but may work.
good job on nabbing a genuine jog engine, make a good project out of this!

I own an 88 Jog,
and if it's like that,
the wiring gets a bit tricky.
There is an auto choke (might make more sense to convert it to manual)
and a ton of wires in the wiring harness.
It would take some time to map it out for you, but I could do it.
I agree that you should try and find a used wiring harness.
It would be the best $20-30 you could spend.
My Jog project is close to done now.
As you might remember, I used the motor and wiring harness to make
a standup scooter (like a goped)
The wiring harness made it very easy.
Without it,
I would have been lost in trying to get this running...

Thanks for the responses guys ;wink)
Well, I know the Jog CDI plugs right into the Razz wiring harness. I only have a Razz wiring harness here and the cheapest 92-01 Jog harness I can find is $65! Other than that, I think everything else will work. I will be using either a Razz carb or a Jog carb- with the disabled choke since it is a Razz harness. Does anyone know what size difference (if any) there is between a Razz carb and a Jog carb?
Other than those, I just have to make sure the wiring coming out of the engine plugs into the Razz harness.... I sure hope it does!
If anyone has a 92-01 Jog harness, please let me know!
Thanks

why use a harness when you can splice wires for free? You only need 3 or 4 wires to run your scooter depending on your cdi.

I do know that the Jog CDI fits perfectly in the Razz wiring harness.

Does anyone know if the Razz and Jog carbs are the same size? The only difference I've seen between the two is the Razz has a manual choke, while the Jog has an auto choke. If they are of different sizes, what sizes are they, and are they pretty close?
Thanks!

Well, the Jog Engine is coming along pretty well. I am cleaning it up right now and checking things out on it. It needs a top-end rebuild, so I will be putting a 70cc kit on it.
I have a couple questions: what are some belt recommendations for it? It is a 94 Jog engine, horizontally mounted. Is there anything I should know/ check out/ inspect on this motor? I'm very familiar with Razzes, but the Jogs are new to me. Any good variator/roller setups?
Thanks

start a new post, not in razz area and you should get help. Remember the razz is the bottom of scoots and most won't read are posts.
just a thought

basically check out the zuma or maybe vento forums and compare stuff from there. Since a horizontal jog engine is basically what all those scooter engines are based off.
Personally if going with 70cc, if stock vari try 3.5g-5g, aftermarket 4g-6g. You can also find a direct bando replacement belt either from provo or from other sources. There's also malossi kevlar and polini options, but my personal fav is bando. Doesn't last as long but performs better.
