Ok I see-

2006 2 strokers will be manufactured strictly for racing purposes only. If you have a 2 stroker it is still ok to drive on the street and so on.

Run out and buy 2005 2 bangers since they will be a classic one day!

Do you have the legislature on that? I have heard that, but I have also heard that it is not law yet, and may not happen. I wonder if anyone has definitive facts on this.

I read something about this in one of my Personal Watercraft Illustrated mags.

Let me dig up some back copies and look for the info!

Cool-

Really I got the &^(*& scared out of me thinking I bought a scooter 4 months ago that I could only ride for 2 years- like WTF ya know.

There are several states that are looking to ban the tu-strokes but from what I understand they are in sub-committee, and that would only include new models and not those already on the road. I'm guessing CA would be one such state. But I think the writing is on the wall. You'll note that Japan is going 4-stroke, the UK won't be far behind they've been trying to get new laws on the books banning new four-strokes on the road. I think it's a matter of time. But think of it this way by the time that happens most cars will be all electric and hybrids and us scooterists will be the only ones on the road with fully combinable engines :)

I understand the PWC issue was two fold, one hand people were yapping about the noise and then on the other there were all these bloody eco-nuts screaming that it was damaging the ocean's floor. Honda dumped so much in to developing four stroke motors that by the time the scientists said that the two strokers did no damage, Honda was too deep in to drop the four strokes.

Fishermen are also trying to get rid of all pwc. They jumped on the pollution band wagen. My question is "how is your boat less polluting than my ski?"

Its all a bunch of bs if you ask me!!

A few weeks ago, I was on a 40' ex USN speed boat on the Bay. The fishermen for whatever reason all had stop their boats to fish just off the channel. For whatever reason the fishing is good in the channel. We were moving about 40knotts when we passed under the Bay Bridge at Sandy Point. We had traveled the channel up from Tilghman to Baltimore, and man when we had to cross paths with those fishermen they were flipping us off left and right. Personally they shouldn't be fishing in the channel. They think we're scaring off the fish, well what about the tugs and cargo container ships? And I'm sure the USCG cutters make a hella lot of noise. anycase, I don't buy in to that bunk either.

All The 2 Stroke haters want them stupid weak 4 strokes. I dont like this idea  . I think there are alot of haters especialy in racing cometitions because the get smoked by the 2 strokes engines. Lets say a jet ski needs a 2 stroke engine for it to rus fast and have good throtle response. 4 stroke scooters are no GOOD :(

This is a good poll topic.

Not sure how we could poll this seeing how emissions standards vary from state to state. What may end up banned in one state doesn't apply to another state.

This is nothing new in California. They already won't allow anything above 50cc two stroke in the state (as far as scooters, I don't know about watercraft). Lake Tahoe won't allow any two stroke water craft. Can't they just be happy that we're getting better fuel efficiency than any four wheel auto and forget about the smoke? There's too many people in power here pushing their own agendas. Every few months some idiot assembly member tries to push a bill through that requires emissions tests for all years of cars, even old ones. I would not be suprised in the least to see us go against two strokes by 06.

Most states exempt cars either prior to 78 or that are more than 25 years old. In MD your car is also exempt if the repair costs to bring the car in to compliance will exceed $250.oo Also ZEV or NZEV like hybrids are exempt too in many states.

My bajaj is a four stroke and I haven't found a hill yet that I couldn't go up at reasonable speed. It seems to perform about the same as my buddy's Stella which is a 150 two stroke. I've had both my wife and I on it in San Fran and we cruised pretty good. Then again, it is a 145cc. I can understand a 50cc four stroke not having enough guts. That seems too small to me for a four stroke!

2 strokes banned what are they thinking about. Take a look on the road and see how many diesel powered engine polutes the air what do you guys have to say about this all the big diesel engines is a very big polution in CA. When you go farther out from the city then look into the sky you can liturally see all the smoke!!! And where is it coming from 2 strokes? There are any 2 strokes out on the street look at the big rigs. Why not make them all run on clean air!!!

I don't agree... but I remember seeing studies and other BS info that says the diesel engines don't polute as much as a startard car does... Suposedly that is why most states exempt the diesel engine vehicles from emissions tests!

I think it's horse ****e! But... Texas, Alaska and Washington all (where i have lived with emission tests) exempted the diesel engine vehicles...

But you know that big black cloud from diesel trucks/buses sure as hell is hard on the lungs!

Diesels put out far less pollution than gasoline engines do. In the 80's the environmental regs were loosely enforced and all those black billowing smoke and soot you'd see were from improperly maintained vehicles and emissions. Today many mass transit vehicles and trucks run on soy based bio-diesels. Here's a way to look at it nearly 40% of all cars and trucks in the UK and the EU are diesel yet they hold tight emmission laws than the states do.

Diesel is also much more efficient than gasoline. The ideal air fuel mixture for gasoline is 14.7:1. I don't know what it is for diesel but I know that you need much less diesel with air for combustion.

I agree... Talking about the Smell of Diesel fuel is Horrible could you imagine all are cars were runing that stuff the smell alone is sicking...

Reguler gas is not bad you dont spell very much in cars except when there very old... :)

I would not Stress to much about that BAN its 2004 :)
