I'm new to the forum. I spent hours reading threads on oil and gear oil.
I ride a stock 05 yamaha zuma. The only thing not factory is the pirelli SL26 tires I just installed.
I've been using Yamalube 2S two stroke oil in the injector, and
Valvoline 80-90wt. GL gear oil in the transmission.
My question is, would it be better if I ran Mobil 1 fully synthetic 2-stroke oil in the engine and Mobil 1 fully synthetic GL gear oil 80-90wt. in the tranny?
I have no problems with Yamalube 2s oil, its just I have the chance to get a case of the Mobil 1 synthetic stuff for about 1/2 price :ll
If I do switch, I was gonna remove almost all of the yamalube, leaving just enough left in the tank so I wouldn't get any air in the system, then just put the mobil 1 stuff in on top of it. Would that be ok?
The tranny I'll get warm, drain, replace, ride a while, drain a second time, then fill it up, to clean all the old gear oil out.
Any suggestions?

I did better than half price....I got a case of Mobil 1 Racing 2T fully synthetic 2 cycle oil, and a couple unopened bottles of Mobil 1 75w-90 synthetic gear lubricant for doing some work for a guy :yippy: .
The bottle talks about all the wonderfull stuff it does, but nowhere on the bottle does it say for injector use
One of the paragraphs on the bottle says "provides outstanding performance in other 2 stroke, air cooled applications such as: Motor Scooters, snowmobiles, chainsaws and garden equipment".....
And "For use as a premix, follow manufactures recommendations".
Can I use this safely in my stock injector?
Please say yes ..pray..

If it is for injector use, it usaually will say it on the bottle. If it says "premix" than no.

I checked out the mobiloil.com site, and it does not say anything about injector use, only 2-stroke oil, etc. I checked valvoline, havoline, penzoil, royal purple, castrol, etc. They all say can be used as injector/pre-mix etc.
Anyone using this oil in their zuma? Please respond.

No, Im running castor oil. The gear oil you speak of will be absolutely fine. Some people around here run 10w30 in their gearboxes.
I don't know if you should run the mobil 2 stroke or not? It is full synth(which is better than semi), but it doesn't say injector or premix on the bottle?
I would say no, unless you get more info on it.
If you're stock, 1 bottle of YAmalube should pretty much last a year anyway, just stick with it.

Mikal, you must not ride your scooter much o_o
I'm recovering from spinal surgery 4 months ago, and while I've not been able to ride my motorcycles, I've been having a ball on this little guy :yippy:
I'm racking up about 250 miles a day, just trying to see how far I can go on surface streets. I did a 300 mile round trip over a mountain pass a couple weeks ago!
so......I don't think a quart of any oil would last me more than a week or two ::handleba
It is because of this abuse, and the fact I weight 200lbs, and run the little fella wot for hours at a time, that I think I should switch over to full syn oil.
I'm gonna call Mobil in the AM and see what they have to say.
I'll keep ya'll posted on their answer.

Wow 250 miles a day, I hope you have the Corbin seat. Does yours smoke after you do the WOT after that trip? I did an hour long trip at WOT and man was that thing smoking after that. I came to a stop light and filled the air with my blue smoke. It stopped after a few minutes of normal riding though.

250 miles a day? You might be better off buying stock in the oil industry, and getting returns that way.

No smoking problems so far. I ran it from San Jose California, all the way up to San Francisco on the El Camino Real at 11:00pm the other night and hit every green light, and had it pinned for 45 minutes straight. Never missed a beat, slowed down, or smoked at all ::handleba
I got the final word on oil from Mobil oil company this morning.....
Mobil said their RACING 2T FULLY SYNTHETIC 2 CYCLE MOTORCYCLE OIL IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN INJECTORS!
Mobil said they don't have any Oil for use in Injectors be is scooter or motorcycle! They said there oil is for PRE-MIX ONLY!
So it looks like I'm back to Yamahlube oil. :(

amsoil makes a full syn injector oil. dominator i think. the redline stuff i use can also be used in an injector i think. just google it.

250 miles at maybe 35 mph avg is like 7 hrs a day of scootin. thats pretty serious.

Redline 2 cycle synthetic says premix or injector on the bottle so you can use it either way. Thats all I run, I love the smell of it. A coworker asked if I was running "race gas" in that thing.

Bel Ray Si7 works for me and Redline works fine as well. I still have my injector.

So you're saying the scooter rides more smooth than a motorcycle? You must have some nice roads.

I thought we were talking about 2 stroke oil?

Ok, I have a question concerning oil.

I ride with a crowd of Vespas and Lambrettas, and they have all gotten rid of their autoinjectors. They had failures in that department and just decided not to take a chance anymore. Their advice to me was to bypass the injector and mix. Please tell me injector failure is an Italian thing. The thought of mixing is not my idea of fun.

Second question: While reading my new FSM binder last night I noticed it said that there could be a bad chemical reaction if I mixed synth with fossil. How does one switch over?

the pump on the yamaha are very reliable.

to switch, just drain the old stuff. pull the plastics, and unhook the oil line and it will drain.

I just switched from Motorex Full Synthetic Scooter to Repsol 2T Competition (also full synthetic). I like it alot better, I'd have to say it smokes less and runs just a bit smoother, and is safe for injector or premix.

So, drain the resevoir, pull and clean everything? Got it. Guess that's going to happen when I do the tune up. (God that's gonna be a long day.)

I won a free quart of Motul 710 Synth at a raffle (and a Vespa seat...go figure). Everyone here swears by it and it states it's good in injection systems.
