hey guys,

my derestricted/stock 03 2t is getting out of control. it is burning an incredible amount of ioil at start up. the longer i leave it sitting/the more oil burned, obviously. BUt it seems like it is getting worse. i left it for about a week w/out starting it and i was amazed by the amount of smoke coming from the the exhaust. it took approx 10 minutes of riding before giant dark cluds finally dissapeared. i know that it is gettting worse. i dont use synthetic oil. i know that this is a big issue, but i have been using the same kind of oil for years and have never had these types of results.

anyone have any ideas why this is getting worse by the month?

It could be a few things. I'd start by replacing your sparkplug with a new one, and see if anything changes. Your carb could be dirty- mine was smoking a bit more than it used to and I cleaned the carb, the smoke went away afterward. I would definitely switch over to a quality synthetic oil also, not only will it smoke less, but it will very likely increase your fuel economy and prolong engine life.

i just replaced my sparkplug a few months ago. thanks for the advice. i suppose that it's time to check out my carb anyway. i havent done a thorough check on it in some time.

No problem. Come back if you have any questions.

check the oil injector adjustment is not set to over oil

Oil injectors are NOT adjustable! Do NOT try to adjust it, as you will probably break it!

Not true. There are some adjustable ones. I know that the Vento oil pump is adjustable via a cam and cable.

checked the carb and all seems well. looks great.

well i know that my scoot isnt using any more oil than it typically does. i havent had to refill more than usual.

maybe ill take off the exhaust and try to clean the inside. i may have some buildup, maybe on the area where the restricter used to be. i couldnt get the leftover metal completely flush with the pipe so it could be gunky.

edit- im almost positive that the oil injector does not have a adjustment setting on it.

I cleaned mine out with about 4 cans of brake clean. Just kept spraying it in there until it ran out clear.

Out of curiosity did it perform better after the thorough cleaning?

There was a slight but noticeable improvement.

When I did it I was doing something else so I had it hanging vertically for about an hour in the sun. Doubt very much that it's necessary though.

I would let it dry. You don't want a ton of cleaner to run through your engine at once. I could possibly be overkill. Maybe you could blow it out with an airhose.

update for those who are interested:

completely drained my oil and added full synthetic.

cleaned out the pipe with some brake cleaner, a considerable amount of guck came out of there. i found that where i had dremeled the restrictor was the biggest culprit. it wasnt completely smooth so a lot of build up was in that area. i simply let it hang dry for a day and reinstalled the next day.

these two quick fixes seemed to work pretty well. i would highly recommend that anyone who has derestricted the exhaust should check this every so often if you couldnt get a flush cut with your dremel. even a few millimeters can catch a lot of gunk.

@LaVinoMi

i also encountered that problem. i just mix the oil to the fuel tank instead of using the autolobe. i'm also using a regular engine oil but i'm planning to switch to a synthetic based oil. by the way, i'm using a Yamaha Vino 90cc 2 stroke.

SEE! He's got a 90cc 2-stroke! No one seems to know what they got. I have an 82cc 2-stroke. All the books say it's a 50.

Sounds like your carb is set too rich, maybe your air mixture screw. Spark plugs can foul out pretty easy if running too rich so I would try a new plug anyway, their cheap and easy, then I would try leaning out your air mixture screw. These might be the most easy things to try first.
