my buddy wants to get a scooter but he doesnt want to spend alot of money on one. so he was wandering if these was any good. HERE (http://www.pepboys.com/transportation/street_legal_scooters/gas.html) says they go 29 mph. so im assuming they can be derestricted like any other scoot. he wants one that can keep up with mine after derestriction. my stock zuma can do 40mph flat out so he would have to get 11 mph out of derestricting, is that possible? he was mainly looking at the fusion one on that page.

may i ask why? so i can give him the info on why not to get one of these.
They are JUNK!!! my best advice to anyone is, if you can't afford a new scooter buy a used spree, razz, jog anything with a top named company on it. you can get them under $500 usally and they may be slow but will last longer and you can find parts for them.

To begin with, they are flat out cheap, poorly made scoots that'll last probably a short 1,000 miles. And when, not if, but when it breaks down good luck finding parts and service. I've also heard that these can't be registered (no vin number), and in order for it to be street legal in most states you need registration and insurance. And finally, who wants a no-name scoot?

check the auction sites. seams to be some "good" deals on there..... just make sure you plan on picking it up, not having it "shipped"

All those scooters are basically re-labeled Geely's. Also they are all 4 stroke engines, so 30 mph is the tops your friend will get on them. Someone on another board looked at a used Vino for sale in Md and said it's still avail. She ended up with a Vespa E2. I'll try to find the link and post it

the easiest way to tell if it's "QUALITY" or "CHEAP" is to look at the warrenty....
IE: yamaha is a 1 year unlimited milage warrenty... and you can get a Yamaha Exteneded Warrenty up to a total of 4 years unlimited miles... Which means...
yamaha warrenty info (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products/unitspecs/2/mcy/8/151/0/yamaha_zuma.aspx) also look at Y.E.S extended warrenty info (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/yes/yes_msports2.html)
I can but a zuma, not do any mods and for an additional $235 (total 4 year contract) have it rebuild 100 times and put a million miles on it in 4 years...
Show me a off brand that'll come close and I'd buy it... most come with a 30 day warrenty on parts only... not labor... the one you posted about has a 30 day and there are a bunch of exclusions... look here (http://www.pepboys.com/transportation/tech_help/warranty.pdf) and you'll see how bad the warrenty is... then where do you get it serviced? pepboys? no they'll tell you they just sell them but don't work on them... so you'll end up with shipping costs to get it fixed as well...
There is no way to even compair these scooter with a yamaha, honda, etc... or even some of the vintage style scooters...

Jered & King Vino Is Right Sometimes people will use them to Rip off people and there at Pep boys Dont even have Any Belts or Parts for them at pep boys and Dont know why the Scooters are sold for if theres nobody to Repair them. My Vento came with a 1 Year Warrenty The old bike i had only had 30 Days, Reasons Why 30 days is that you won't Replace All of the Parts Under warrenty,it will run them Broke thats part of the Scam that people run on each other 30 Days is Not good  even KragenAutoParts are Selling little scooters which are Cheap and from China as well..
And the bikes Dont go but 20 MPH
Even with upgrades you wont Gain but 35 Mph

I'd take the Vento, or a TNG hands down before even thinking of a Geely!

A blimipie sub shop was giving a Geely away early last summer... I didn't have a scooter then, and I was entering almost everyday trying to win that thing. I (obviously) didn't win it (some girl did), but I'm actually glad I didn't win it - It would have been really bad to have my first scootering experience on a crap scooter like a Geely.
Did someone say that they use plastic instead of metal for the gears? is that even legal? I though I read that somewhere...

Yeah they were using them when we sold them. Erich had similar experiences with the plastic gears. I don't see why it would be illegal to sue plastic gears, heck, we have plastic bumpers (covers) on cars :0

But bumpers and gears have two totally different jobs to do... oh well. It just reinforces the fact that I wouldn't pay any amount for a Geely. now, if I were getting paid, it would be a different story :)
Deep 13 ...ha! I just noticed that. push the button, Frank.

Biggest reason is parts. Most of the "off brand" scoots are rip-offs of the Vino or Metro, but the parts are not all the same. There is a reason they are cheap.
BTW, If you want an inexpensive, legal, chinese scooter, your freind can get into a T'NG Venice for $995 right now (TNG Website) with their winter sale.
