wow they look great. what a stylish add on that isnt heavy on the pocketbook.
just thought that i would post a few suggestions to anyone doing this in the near future...
1. the front signals have a completely different kind of connector as what is on the bike. they do not fit together at all. I cut off both and just attached butt splices to all 4 ends. it's quick and cheap. I then wrapped rubber tape around it to keep it waterproof.
2. The screws that came with the new front signals are not anywhere close to being long enough. I was dissapointed when i realized that the scres that came with the new signals were useless. You will need a longer screw.
3. The rear signals did not come with a nut to attach them. I had to go to the store twice because of missing parts or parts that did not work.
4. The right rear blinker's wire is about 6 inches too short. Again i severed the old connectors on both sides, attached longer wire and attached butt splicers in their place.
overall this is an easy install and it makes your vino look really good. :ll :yippy: ..#1.. ..dance.. o_o
edit- to sum up go out and get yourself about 2 feet of approx 18 gauge wire. at least 8 butt splicers, 2 screws that are a bit longer than the ones that come with your front blinkers, and two nuts to secure on your rear blinkers.

I'm glad you let us know about the install, as I plan on installing mine tommorry. Seems like I'm always looking for a longer screw....

Thanks for the tip with the signal install. Can anyone answer me this...what type of bulbs does the Japanese signal housing take (front and rear) and could/has anyone converted them to LED lighting? From what I've seen of the LED's they require a bit of room(quarter sized or bigger-depending on # of LED).

This is what is etched on the bulb in my Japanese Vino 50 lights:
Stanley 46N 12V10W
Hope this helps.

Just got my rear signals today! Chrismas in August!
LaVinoMi,
You mentioned you needed a longer screw for the the front winks and just a couple of nuts to screw on the rear. My rears don't have any screw posts...just have a small plastic alignment stub at the front of the oval mount and just an 1/8" smooth walled hole to the rear end of the mount. I guess you have to find a "self tapping screw" with sharp threads just wide enough to cut into the plastic wall of the hole to grip without putting too much outward pressure and causing a crack. I'll just stick a small wire down in the hole to guage the screw length needed. Anyone have a simular experience to relay a screw type?

that's strange, indeed. can you tell me if your electrical connectors match up or are you going to have to splice and put in butt connectors?
mudster- i will post some pics when i get the new fneder crest on the front. i just got it yesterday and i am going to be out of town all week. ill post next week some time.

Can't believe I had forgotten how those little light covers were held on to the rear fender panels. It's the same screw that is needed to mount the Japanese lights...duh! I should have seen that when I had them off to install the chrome trim a while back. Oh well... I bought some crimping "male" bullet connectors ($2.50 for 20) to snap into the factory "female" power leads. I cut off the plastic box connector that came with it, stripped the wire back and added the bullet connector..plenty of slack for the right side. The left side needed about 6-8" of extra wire, two 24guage butt splice connectors, heat shrink tube over splice, and the two bullet connectors. Route your left wires above the metal panel in the wheel well to help protect it.
Take note that the amber lens has a 1/2" key that fits into the plasti-chrome rim and a small hole on the opposite side of the lens. Think about which one you want to be seen when looking down at it on the scoot and determine if will be the left or right fender mount...then add your wire extension to the left. If you get in a hurry and pull both your signal leads off at the same time remember the black/green set is the right side (think boat-starboard light color), the left is black/brown. The seat storage well makes a great screw/parts holder when pulling it apart. I'll post some pics of my lights soon.

Hi Sooznd,
Thanks, planning on it asap. I can't stand the Dot sigs with the black plastic posts. I would like to get rid of their internal mounting plate below the headlight to make more room for an alarm install. As it is I had to cut a piece off of the plate just to fit the air horn motor...it was tight and I was wishing I had done sig mod already. I would like to continue with the tail mods...maybe address the black plastic taillight/plate mount issue and new mudflap. Who knows...

The Japanese version of the tail light is still available isn't it? . I agree those rectangular blinkers with the black posts are so ugly..... Yamaha made a nice change with the 4stroke Vino 50 by adding the bullet style blinkers, it's too bad they didn't add them to the Vino 125.

Man Lavino...
The crest really looks great! It looks like it's a skull with wings right? The warm metalic orange color just sets off the cool chrome..I've never seen that color before..is it factory? Been thinking of pulling my rack off the tail also..without it you're eye can really see the lines and shape flow to the back end. I do use mine to hang my cable lock on if I fill my seat box storage.
Like the front sigs too. It all comes together nicely!

it's actually a lions head sort of dealy. that orange color is just the flash of the camera. it's all stock red paint. although orange would look pretty nice. taking off that front fender was actually a big pain. it wasnt hard but there were a lot of other panels that i had to remove just to access it.

Okay, I can see the third pic that shows the profile of the lion's head...cool. I saw the close up pic and thought I saw two eye sockets and a jaw line...but thats me. Funny how it looked orange...red is a great color that also makes chrome pop.
Have you or anyone reading this heard of what you can do to fill the front signal post holes at the rubber boots? I'm planning for a small set of bull horns! Just kidding..maybe.

P.S.- If that is your "garage" for your scoot? Please go buy a small throw rug for your stand. That floor is gonna get thrashed! Sorry I'm a cabinet maker's son..had to say it. Great looking room with the brick and wood.

no, i live in a loft that is a converted factory/warehouse. those floors are original and from 1850?... something like that.
i dont usually take it up to my loft but i wanted to install that crest and it was raining that day.

i think sooznd once mentioned buying 32 oz sodas and taking the lids off. they fit i think. then you can paint them. i wish i knew of another way.

Heh ya all,
I filled in the holes in the headlight hood with simple plastic replacement mirrors. Most people think that there chrome inserts, but just simple mirror cutouts. I used the original rubber covers as a template and cut the simple mirrors with a x-acto. I bought the mirror form Walmart for less the $5. With the headlight hood off, I slid in the mirrors and added duct tape to the back for good measure.
please refer to pix.
Good luck ya all!
